The Senior CAD Engineer – Vehicle Integration (VI) supports the packaging, development and virtual validation of vehicle attributes and architecture.
This person is the lead point of contact for overall vehicle design attributes, inclusive of mechanical and occupant packaging. The Senior CAD VI Engineer brings their knowledge of all mechanical disciplines, including manufacturing and service requirements, to drive optimal design solutions.
This role requires strong communication, negotiation, leadership and CAD skills. They must be knowledgeable of FMVSS and other regulatory and industry requirements, as well as proactive, self-starting, energetic and an ability to lead cross functional teams to solve complex package issues.
In addition, this role will also support advanced engineering activities and Technology Road Map development executed by the Head of Advanced Engineering.
The Senior CAD Engineer – Vehicle Integration will support EMV engineering and business teams based in Mesa Arizona, Burnaby BC and partner global facilities.
Job Responsibilities

  • Thoroughly understand and apply various standards for design, including internal design guidelines, homologation requirements for ECE, FMVSS and GB standards (ex. lighting, vision, exterior projections, safety, etc.)
  • Lead the mechanical arrangement of systems, sub-systems, components and occupant package to achieve geometric compatibility and vehicle attribute targets
  • Closely collaborate with engineering team and other disciplines to ensure robustness, serviceability, manufacturability
  • Manually fabricate or mock-up miscellaneous components using hand tools such saws, files, drills, etc.
  • Develop Mechanical and Occupant Packages using NX and General Assembly
  • Provide guidance to Studio & Engineering teams on interior / exterior feasibility
  • Support the engineering team by performing NX CAD studies, conducting analysis and preparing reports
  • Lead and/or support vehicle package reviews and team meetings
  • Support vehicle builds, identify issues and work to achieve robust solutions
  • Collaborate with marketing to translate customer requirements into engineering-based requirements
  • Benchmark competition and develop quantitative targets and identify opportunities
  • Own vehicle architecture targets, specifications & score card
  • Track and communicate open issues

Requirements

  • 5+ years NX experience required
  • Prior Occupant and Mechanical Packaging required
  • TeamCenter experience preferred
  • Minimum 10+ years automotive industry experience with OEM experience preferred
  • Bachelor of Science degree (Mechanical) or higher in a technical discipline preferred.
  • Familiarity with DFMEA and DVP&R preferred
  • Familiar with vehicle assembly and service. (DFM/ DFS; design for manufacturing and service)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Understanding of SAE J1100 dimensions and ECE, FMVSS and GB standards and test procedures
  • Good knowledge of vehicle from Bumper to Bumper and its functions.
  • Creativity; strong communication (verbal, written, presentation) and conflict resolution skills
  • Open minded and flexible enough to work effectively in an environment where project priorities may rapidly shift
  • MS Office, SharePoint, PowerPoint, experience
  • Prior experience using vehicle architecture/occupant package tools (i.e. CAVA, NX General Package, Ramsis, etc).
