Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

Reviews, evaluates, designs, implements, and maintains the divisions company DB2 database(s):

• Install and administer DB2 LUW databases on windows server systems.
• Creates database design specifications based on understanding of business transactions.
• Create DB2 instances, databases and configure licensing.
• Install new published DB2 binary fixes or versions released by IBM.
• Migration of DB2 subsystems or databases to new infrastructure.
• Creates database objects (tables, etc.).
• Creates and maintains database definitions and tables.
• Set up, run and monitoring jobs such as backup, ETL, data distribution statistics and table reorgs.
• Designs, codes, tests, and implements custom database scripts and formal procedures.
• Ensures data integrity; recommends action to maintain data integrity; establishes process/procedures for ongoing data cleanup.
• Monitors and maintains databases for proper performance tuning.
• Designs, implements, and maintains data retention and archival; plans for storage needs, retention, backup, and recovery.
• Designs, implements, and maintains database security.
• Assists in identifying and resolving database problems.
• Work with developers to identify and solve performance issues through SQL explain path analysis and develop indexes or SQL modification to compensate for issues.
• Work with IBM to solve unexplained performance issues or DBMS failures by supplying requested table/data/tracing data and implement IBM recommendations.
• Develop and execute appropriate DDL and SQL with developers for projects and transition those projects from testing to production systems.
• Designs and writes codes for database access, modifications, and constructions, including stored procedures.
• Exhibits strong business knowledge and builds strong customer relationships.
• May have responsibility for performance and coaching of staff and may have a participatory role in decisions regarding talent selection, development, and performance management for direct reports.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.

Field of Study: Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.

Experience: 8+ years of related experience. DB2 (or similar database) DBA certification.
