The University of Missouri Research Reactor (MURR) is seeking a Senior Manager, Finance and Accounting. This position supports MURR’s unique role in providing quality nuclear products and services, including radiopharmaceuticals for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, while simultaneously performing research in the nuclear and radiological sciences. This person should have strong communication and management skills, a background in finance and accounting, and a desire to provide excellent customer service.

Key Duties Performed by This Position Will Include

The Senior Manager, Finance and Accounting reports directly to the Director I, Business Administration. The primary purpose of this position is to provide supervision, guidance, and oversight of MURR’s Fiscal Operations and Services department. This department is responsible for all of MURR’s fiscal related activities with an annual budget of approximately $45M. The position supervises five full time fiscal related positions.

  • Lead the day-to-day operations of Fiscal Operations and Services department including tasks and responsibilities related to accounting, budgeting, procurement, billing, accounts receivable/payable, grant proposals/awards, fiscal analysis/reporting.
  • Supervise and manage the daily workflow for one exempt and four non-exempt fiscal staff positions. Establish and ensure cross training among these positions.
  • Collaborate and interface with several campus departments including Supply Chain, Accounting, Finance, Legal, Facilities, Sponsored Programs and various academic units.
  • Possess signature authority and shall serve as the primary approver of all fiscal related transactions.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of a new QuickBooks Enterprise database to improve and enhance MURR’s internal fiscal analysis and reporting functions.
  • Assist the Director I, Business Administration with annual budget preparation. Maintain the PeopleSoft Work Day budget module and develop the annual departmental labor budget.
  • Assist the Director I, Business Administration with the fiscal year-end closing process and prepare all closing entries.

In Addition, The Individual Will

  • Identify problem areas within the fiscal department and recommend opportunities for improvement/enhancement.
  • Shall be knowledgeable of all University of Missouri policies and procedures related to finance and accounting and shall ensure MURR’s compliance.
  • Provide analysis and input in response to various fiscal related questions from MURR staff.

Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of the University’s policies and procedures.
  • Hands-on experience with QuickBooks Enterprise, and the University of Missouri’s PeopleSoft Finance Production module including Web Applications..
