Job description

GFiber is an Alphabet company that brings Google Fiber and Google Fiber Webpass internet services to homes and businesses across the United States. Our growing, inclusive team is expanding as we connect more cities and people.
Role Description
At GFiber, our philosophy is build it, break it, and then rebuild it better. That thinking is at the core of how we approach testing at GFiber. Unlike roles with similar names at the other companies, Test Engineers at GFiber aren't manual testers - you write scripts to automate testing and create tools so developers can test their own code. As a Test Engineer, you will navigate GFiber's massive codebase, identify weak spots, and constantly design better and creative ways to break software and identify potential problems. You'll have a huge impact on the quality of GFiber's growing suite of products and services.
You will use your knowledge of testing and testability to influence better software design, promote proper engineering practice, bug prevention strategies, testability, accessibility, privacy, and other advanced quality concepts across products.
At GFiber, you will be providing users with the fastest services possible while constantly trying to push the boundaries and limits. GFiber works to go the very last mile, providing fiber-optic Internet connections directly to users' homes. You'll be building one of the fastest networks in America so that users can experience the future of broadband because we know that your Internet connection can never be too fast enough.
In this role, you'll:
- Develop test strategies and test plans for various GFiber systems and networking devices.
- Develop and build automation framework including debug and triage automation failures.
- Automate commonly used workflows and scenarios.
- Identify and manage project testing priorities and challenges across releases, develop schedules and designs, oversee designs or work of several test engineers and/or projects.
- Collaborate across teams to improve quality and customer experience.
- Work closely with development teams in instrumenting their workflow to build a comprehensive picture of velocity, coverage, and quality.
At a minimum we'd like you to have:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Networking or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5 years of experience in testing, troubleshooting, automating networking devices especially CPE, networking related enterprise applications.
- 2 years of experience in Automation coding with Java or Python.
- Working knowledge of WiFi standards and technologies as used in the CPE devices.
It's preferred if you have:
- Experience leading automation and manual test efforts for networking devices.
- Experience providing and defining long term test strategy.
- Experience developing automation frameworks.
- Experience in working with SRE/Field teams in replicating and resolving customer issues.
