Marin County Parks offers an extensive system of regional and community parks, open space preserves, and trails for public use and enjoyment. The Department consists of two divisions: The Parks and Landscape Division and the Marin County Open Space District (MCOSD). The Department is responsible for planning, acquiring, and managing the County's open space system, which includes more than 16,000 acres of open space and more than 250 miles of public trails, as well as the County's park system with five regional parks, eight neighborhood parks, and six paved multi-use paths. In addition, the Department works closely and collaboratively with private organizations and public agencies within the county that manage and preserve open space lands, parks, and protected environmental sanctuaries including Marin Municipal Water District, Golden Gate National Recreation Area, California State Parks, and National Marine Sanctuaries. The County’s Park and open space systems are enjoyed by millions of visitors annually.


ABOUT THE POSITION

The Senior Program Coordinator will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing work plans across multiple program areas.

Special Districts: Primary responsibilities include acting as District liaison to Advisory Board members and stakeholders within County Service Areas and other Special Districts and construct annual budgets and implement related work plans for those areas. Under direct supervision of Marin County Parks Superintendent, the Senior Program Coordinator will develop, oversee, implement, and collaborate on landscape and facility-related maintenance and capital improvement projects. This position will serve as a technical resource for Advisory Board and community members, and will facilitate and organize regular meetings of those groups. Other responsibilities related to regular meetings includes creating agendas, creating, and reviewing budgets, documenting meeting minutes, and other meeting support documents as needed. The Senior Program Coordinator may directly supervise District staff and will ensure high quality implementation of work conducted by staff and contractors. Similarly, this position will handle all administration related to those programs and projects such as permits, purchase requisitions, and invoicing.

Vegetation Management: Primary responsibilities include supporting annual fire fuel reduction budget development and project planning. Under direction of Marin County Parks Superintendent, this position will also provide technical and administrative support to Operations and Natural Resources staff who perform fire fuel reduction projects including, but not limited to, development of permits, purchase requisitions, and invoice review. This position will also support staff by assisting in soliciting bids and other proposals for fire fuel reduction projects on District lands.

ABOUT YOU

Our Highly Qualified Candidate: will possess lead experience in budget development, budget tracking, and work plan development and execution in the areas of capital projects, landscape construction and maintenance, and/or vegetation management projects. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, and experience creating reports and presenting project data to diverse public and private stakeholder groups. In addition, this person will have experience directly supervising staff and overseeing the work of contractors and should have experience monitoring agreements and contracts, and ensuring compliance with terms, conditions, and guidelines of those agreements and contracts. They will have a strong foundation in public sector natural resources management and will have experience with environmental compliance laws and regulations and working with land management, fire protection agencies, and other governmental bodies. In addition, the ideal candidate will have experience preparing or assisting with funding proposals such as grants and have a proven ability to prioritize and plan projects in a fast-paced environment.

We recognize your time is valuable, so please do not apply if you do not have at least the following required Minimum Qualifications: Equivalent to graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor’s degree in a field closely related to the assigned program(s) such as environmental planning, natural resource management, biological or physical sciences, horticulture, landscaping, communications, business administration, or public administration and three years of experience providing community, educational or related services. One year must include responsibility for program administration, planning, monitoring, and evaluation.

Additional related experience may substitute for the education on a year for year basis.

A graduate degree in a field closely related to the assigned program(s) is highly desirable.

Highly Desired: Related certifications such as Project Management Professional and or GIS professional, and/or other project management or database proficiency.
