Job Description:
The Senior Research Associate will join our viral vector process development group supporting process development, production, and characterization of viral vectors, which are key intermediates in the CAR-T drug product. The candidate will support platform development and advance our capabilities in vector production.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, run and troubleshoot upstream experiments in support of generating a well optimized AAV production process
- Lead various aspects of the process development program for next generation viral vector manufacturing platforms
- Optimize stirred-tank and perfusion bioreactor operating conditions to produce recombinant AAV at <1 to >200 L
- Generate representative crude harvest material to support downstream development activities
- Work independently and within teams to design, execute, and analyze experiments
- Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory notebook and documentation
- Contribute to the authoring of detailed process documentation
- Contribute to the development and execution of platform strategy
- Summarize and present data in group meetings and contribute to group discussions
- B.S. (2-6 years of relevant experience) or MS (0-3 years of relevant experience) in Engineering, Virology, Biology, Biochemistry, or related discipline
- Experience with suspension cell culture in shake flasks and small stirred tank bioreactors
- Hands on experience in process development
- Working knowledge of scale up parameters for stirred tank bioreactors
- Proven ability to design experiments with DoE approaches, execute DoE designs and interpret the results
- Independently motivated with ability to work in teams
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely through oral presentation and technical writing
- Experience in the development of viral vectors (e.g. adeno-, retro-, lenti-), including successful transfer for GMP manufacturing
- Hands on experience with mammalian cell culture processes
- Experience interfacing with contract manufacturing and development organizations
- Proven track record of high-quality external presentations and peer-reviewed publications
- Experience with transfection-based processes
- Experience with incorporation of processes intensification steps such as moving to fed batch and perfusion-based processes
