The Opportunity
Ulteig is seeking talented and motivated candidates for a Senior Transportation Engineer/Project Manager position focused on NDDOT within the Transportation group. The Senior Engineer will act as a discipline lead engineer or overall project engineer conducting the planning, scheduling, conducting and/or coordinating of detailed phases of assigned project work. They will make design recommendations, adaptations, and modifications for complex transportation projects. The Senior Engineer will perform and/or review calculations using engineering formulas and skills and completes own design work which may involve computer-aided and/or manual design calculations.
What You Will Do
- Applies current, standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to complete engineering tasks.
- Oversees development of plans, specifications, and observation reports to see that these items are complete, accurate and in accordance with sound engineering practice.
- Practices value engineering as it pertains to design selection.
- Recommends alterations to development and design to improve quality.
- Works closely with engineering technicians and experienced engineers.
- Relies on experience and judgment to plan the work and accomplish goals.
- Is technically involved with the resolution of design problems that may include performing field investigation or observations.
- Checks design plans and computations done by others.
- Coordinates design aspects of a project.
- May devise new approaches and solutions to problems encountered.
- Prepares reports and correspondence concerning the direction of assigned projects.
- May participate in marketing, sales, and business development activities within the North Dakota market.
- Demonstrates a wide degree of creativity and latitude.
- Effectively communicates and interacts with clients to ensure we are meeting their needs.
- Works closely with other disciplines on multi discipline projects.
What We Expect from You
- B.S. in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution is required.
- Civil Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in North Dakota is required.
- 15+ years of transportation engineering experience in design and/or construction is required. Extensive experience working with NDDOT is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management, clients, public, and external agencies.
- Must be analytical, self-motivated, and possess the ability to work in high-pressure situations while maintaining a positive and enthusiastic attitude.
- Strong information management skills.
- High level of initiative and demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with clear expectations and timeliness.
- Excellent presentation and verbal/written communication skills.
- Displays a high level of initiative while exploring new opportunities while understanding the risk to the organization.
- Proven experience in Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and additional software knowledge depending on specialty.
- Must have authorization to work permanently in the U.S.
