Scope of Job

The Shipping / Receiving Manager leads and coordinates the activities of the shipping/receiving team within the main facility in Carol Stream, IL and the off-site warehouse in Roselle, IL. The shipping/receiving departments handle high-velocity in-bound and out-bound daily consisting of TL’s, LTL, and parcel. You will support teams with schedules, training, performance, and accountability. Maintains safety, quality, productivity, and efficiency standards while driving change management within your department. Responsibilities will include leading teams toward common goals, develop and deploy standardized processes, use data to track results and problem solve. This position requires the ability to communicate effectively, with a high emphasis on responsiveness and leadership.

Essential Duties

Job duties are as follows but not limited to:

  • Coordinate all outbound /inbound activities with urgency and discipline to accomplish key organizational objectives.
  • Escalate critical issues and partner with Manufacturing, Customer Service, Procurement, and Planning to drive top level performance and to eliminate/reduce disruptions and negative customer impact.
  • Receive materials / inventory systematically in SAP and prepare for put away.
  • Coordinate material handling for production to include raw materials, WIP, finished goods and assist in handling as necessary.
  • Help to improve and maintain an optimal Safety environment. Drive a “Safety First” mindset with the team.
  • Build efficient shipping/receiving processes; develop standard work, and train team.
  • Develop department KPI’s; develop report out method and action plans to improve.
  • Work with greater Pregis Logistics Team for Carrier support and optimization.
  • Maintain a high standard to both 5S and lean practices, making sure all warehouse and dock spaces are clean, organized and set up to maximize efficiency.
  • Manage and execute internal STO’s between main and off-site warehouse.
  • Schedule trucks to pick up all outgoing shipments.
  • Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications.
  • Prepares shipments in SAP, selects appropriate shipping method and ensures a safe delivery.
  • Receives and unloads incoming materials and compares information to packing slip with purchase order to verify accuracy of shipment
  • Traces lost/short shipments and/or customer claims of lost/short shipments
  • Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives
  • Oversee the pick and pack product in an efficient manner for less than truckload shipments.
  • Have the ability to communicate effectively with sales, scheduling, and production in order to plan shipping activities and to coordinate the pick-up and routing of freight with all applicable freight carriers.
  • Works with customer service to provide the best in-stock dates.
  • Tracks, traces and expedites pick labels and orders to ensure on-time arrival to include the overall support of the warehouse flow of inbound and outbound shipments.
  • Ensures timely actions on customer complaints and develops root cause analysis to resolve customer issues related to shipping quality escapes.
  • Accountable for performance management for S/R team members.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Associates Degree minimum.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years in a manager role with a strong knowledge of shipping, receiving and warehouse operations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective development and counseling of subordinates, training, orienting and motivating employees in procedures, policies, methods, and operations of equipment.
  • Results orientated with the ability to focus on continuous improvement.
  • Ability to multitask in a faced paced environment.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • ERP in particular SAP experience preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to work outside of normal hours including evening and weekends.
