Job Title: Social Services Assistant
Department: Clinical
Report To: Clinical Supervisor
Hours: Standard hours 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. or otherwise determined by needs of Board
Position Status: Full time; Permanent; Exempt; Unclassified
Starting Salary: $39,000

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION
· Maintain continuous contact with Franklin County Department of Job and Family Services (JFS) to obtain and maintain client benefits by completing initial applications, redetermination, SNAP paperwork, and assist in obtaining all verification documentation requested by JFS contact
· Maintain continuous contact with Social Security Administration to obtain benefit information for clients, banking information, apply for social security benefits and Medicare, obtain/apply for social security cards, and address any issues with payments
· Arrange pre-paid funeral arrangements and serve as liaison between various funeral homes and the clinical and legal team
· Complete and follow up on representative payee applications as directed from the clinical team
· Assist in spend-downs of resources to maintain Medicaid eligibility, as directed by the clinical and/or legal team
· Assist in obtaining Statements of Expert Evaluations for Probate Court Annual Reporting process and pick up paperwork as needed
· Perform routine data entry and documentation in case management system
· Provide non-clinical support to social work staff as needed, such as gathering items from local community resources for clients and linking clients to programs from which they may benefit
· Coordination and documentation of Fallback Fund, Trusts, and P-card in conjunction with the clinical and operations staff
· Visit and assist clients in their home settings, day programs, nursing facilities, or other places in the community at the direction of clinical staff
· Attend medical appointments with clients at the direction of clinical staff and relay information to Social Workers for follow up. Reach out to medical providers to request required documentation for court records, to request updates on care, or other communications as directed by clinical staff
· Observe client well-being and effectively communicate client needs to appropriate GSB staff
· Perform other duties as assigned by the Clinical Manager

· Ability to communicate effectively and professionally both orally and in writing to diverse audiences.

· Ability to effectively utilize Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.).
· Ability to operate office equipment (telephone, fax machine, copier, etc.).
· Ability to maintain a professional appearance and demeanor appropriate for the position and the work environment expected of a representative of the Board.
· Ability to demonstrate and maintain dependability, reliability, and an excellent attendance record.
· Ability to demonstrate patience, objectivity, maturity, effectiveness under stress, initiative, adaptability, and an ability to multi-task.
· Knowledge of clinical terminology.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Candidates must demonstrate a combination of education, experience, and personal characteristics that support the candidate’s ability to perform the duties of the position.
Minimum requirements include:
· Associates degree in social services or a related field and/or one year experience in human/social service agency and one year experience in a social service supportive role
· Strong working knowledge and/or experience with Job and Family Services, Medicare and Social Security Administration
· Proficiency in using Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.)
· Excellent organization, prioritization, multi-tasking, and oral and written communication skills
· A valid driver’s license and proof of insurance
Preferred requirements include:
· Bachelor’s degree in social services or a related field
· One year experience in data entry
· Experience working or volunteering with diverse populations such as: mental health, developmentally disabled, older adults, and those afflicted by homelessness, drug and alcohol use, etc.
BOARD EXPECTATIONS OF EMPLOYEE
In completing the duties and responsibilities of the position, the Board expects that the employee will adhere to all Board policies, guidelines, practices and procedures; act as a role model both inside and outside the Board; perform duties as workload necessitates in a timely, accurate and thorough manner and communicate regularly with the Director regarding department issues.

Employees of the Board are at-will employees and serve at the pleasure of the Board. Employees are not in the classified civil service system and are not members of bargaining units.
