Provides professional social work services to patients and their families to assist them in coping with psycho-social problems related to acute/chronic illness and treatment regimens.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Completes psychosocial assessments to determine patient’s emotional, mental and social functioning; evaluates required casework and psychotherapeutic intervention before successful medical management of patient is sustained.
- Provides crisis intervention, grief counseling and support to patients and families.
- Makes referrals to community agencies and other supportive programs.
- Participates in interdisciplinary team clinics and conferences to develop medical and social treatment plans.
- Participates in independent patient care audits, in-service training and research as appropriate.
- Develops and implements policies and procedures that guide and support the team.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state and county regulations and certification requirements.
- Performs related responsibilities and duties as needed or as assigned.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS AND SUCCESS INDICATORS:
- Patient outcomes meet or exceed medical standards as evidenced by successful completion of treatment and/or record review.
- Medical records are completed in a timely manner as evidenced by Medical Records Department documentation.
- Positive patient, physician and staff relations as evidenced by satisfaction surveys, confidence level and positive comments.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master of Social Work (MSW) degree preferred.
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker, registered Associate Clinical Social Worker and or Medical Social worker licensure required.
- Minimum five (5) years of related experience working with children preferred.
- CCS Paneling (facility can help obtain).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (within 90 days of hire).
- Bilingual Spanish required.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to work variable shift schedules and rotate coverages as need. Variable shift schedules can include morning, evening, weekend and holidays.
Complexity:
Must be able to multi-task efficiently and effectively and take the direction of multiple sources, while maintaining an effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public. Ability to perform highly detailed work with sustained attention and ware while providing/obtaining information on numerous inquiries is paramount to success in this position.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to withstand long periods (40-100% of the time) of walking, standing, bending, sitting, holding limbs and or equipment for long periods of time. Spending extended periods of time verbally communicating with patients, families, healthcare team members, and visitors. Requires a high level of dexterity for safe handling of patients, equipment, and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.

Strenuous work environment with the ability to make decisions. Orthopaedic Institute for Children is a fast paced facility with long hours of operations that include weekends and holidays.
