As a Software Development Engineer on the team you will...
  • take ownership over the software design, documentation, development, engineering approach,
  • deliver and support of new products built natively in AWS
  • build serverless architectures with event-driven use-cases for real-time synchronization between multiple sub-systems
  • integrate your work with the data engineering team for future machine-learning-driven use-cases

The software you will be responsible for will require a breadth of technical development knowledge (i.e. serverless architecture, event-driven design, continuous deployment technologies to name a few). Daily work will involve interacting with engineers, stakeholders, and managers.

Key job responsibilities
  • Envision, design and develop tools, frameworks and testing infrastructure to facilitate the testing by multiple teams in the Amazon Career Choice portfolio.
  • Collaborating with development teams and your team peers to identify and prioritize opportunities for automation.
  • Lead and actively participate in design, test planning and product design reviews, aligning teams across organization towards coherent testing strategy.
  • Define and gather the necessary metrics to collect across deployment pipelines to make the production release more predictable
  • Actively participate in employee hiring and development process.

A day in the life
You will work on exciting new product spaces while interacting with senior software engineers, data engineers, SDE-Test engineers, Sr. product managers, and regularly have visibility with senior leadership.

You'll work closely with with Product managers who gathers requirements from end customer interactions. You will coordinate with senior engineers to translate business requirements to engineering requirements.

You will engineer systems to handle the scale requirements of 1M+ employees engaging with your product across 14 different countries and numerous languages.

You will work across the full-stack of software, frontend to backend, as well as develop CI/CD automation where necessary.

About the team
This team operates fully virtually with the exception of 2-3x / year having a full team off-site where we gather for team-building and roadmap alignment.

Some things to know:
  • We currently partner with a variety of engineering teams including QA teams, core framework teams, and sister product teams
  • The team is fully virtual, only gathering together 1-2x/year
  • The product offering has recently been approved for significant expansion, this role will lay the groundwork for supporting that

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical discipline.
  • 4+ years industry experience as a Software Engineer or Software Developer.
  • Software Engineer or Software Developer experience with search engine technologies and tools such as Elasticsearch and Kibana.
  • Familiarity with professional software engineering & best practices for full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing and operations.
  • Experience mentoring junior software engineers or software developers in all aspects of their engineering duties.
  • Experience communicating with users, software development engineering teams, and management to collect requirements, describe software product features and technical designs.

The pay range for this position in Jersey City is $143,700 - 194,400/yr; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A sign-on bonus and restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. This information is provided per the Pay Transparency Regulation of Jersey City Municipal Code. Base pay information is based on market location.
