As a Software Engineer Principal within PNC's Technology organization, you will be based remotely. This is a remote position that can sit within the PNC footprint, although it may not be available in all jurisdictions. Certain job responsibilities may require in-person, in office activities on a regular basis.

PNC is looking for a motivated, detail oriented, and quality driven individual. This person will be responsible to lead and govern enterprise Digital Identity development efforts within an Agile development team. Applicants should have significant development and architectural experience within an enterprise setting. Responsibilities in this position include supporting the creation of Java applications using Microservices and REST APIs, Identity products/ applications, as well as supporting compliance with modern security best practices. A key quality of the applicant should be a willingness to help lead and grow developer skills and assist with solving difficult problems and situations.

Duties and Responsibilities Include:
  • Contribute to overall software development efforts as part of project execution and maintenance of existing applications
  • Designs & Proposes software solutions to address complex business needs
  • Prepares technical and procedural documentation required
  • Reviews coding, testing, and documentation prepared by peer team members
  • Supports deployment of software components through environments
  • Applies modern principles, methodologies and tools to advance business initiatives and capabilities
  • Understands and champions industry and security best practices
  • Support governance of solution design across development and engineering
  • Influences, leads and supports compliance with technical design and development of software solutions
  • Continuously evaluates industry best practices, contributes to organization best practices, and supports oversight of applied practices
Ideal Candidates will have experience in:
  • Experience building enterprise applications using Java
  • Experience creating and supporting SpringBoot microservices
  • Experience with Java testing frameworks (Junit, Mocks, etc)
  • Experience with and understanding of source control tools, such as Git
  • Experience creating web services providing Representational State Transfer (REST, RESTful) APIs
  • Experience implementing and maintaining authentication and authorization services
  • Experience implementing and supporting industry DevOps best practices
  • Experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery pipelines (Jenkins or equivalent)
  • Experience leading and/or coaching other software developers to improve software development and follow best practices
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Java Developer certifications
  • Container / Kubernetes / RedHat OpenShift certifications
  • CICD / DevOps certifications
Experience in the following is a bonus:
  • Experience with container environments and containerized services
  • Experience working with OAuth and JSON Web Token (JWT)
  • Experienced with UML diagramming
  • Experienced with Identity and Access Management platforms and protocols
  • Experience with static application security testing (SAST) and dynamic application security testing (DAST)
  • Experience with networking concepts

System Development Life Cycle – Knowledge of project management techniques and the ability to plan, design, develop, test, implement and maintain system development life cycle segments and phases.

Technical Troubleshooting – Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques, and the ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical (hardware, software, application or operational) problems.

Work Experience

Roles at this level typically require a university / college degree, with 5+ years of industry-relevant experience. Specific certifications are often required. In lieu of a degree, a comparable combination of education and experience (including military service) may be considered.
