Overview of Position:
DSST Public Schools seeks teachers with a track-record of raising student achievement to join a team of educators dedicated to providing a rigorous college preparatory program to a diverse population. At DSST Public Schools, teachers are leaders who are responsible for developing and implementing DSST’s curriculum. Teachers also play an integral role in ensuring student success through the support of our school culture, the development and instruction of a rigorous core curriculum, and the use of data to drive their daily practice.
DSST Center Program Lead teachers ensure that all students with disabilities are welcomed, known and challenged through rigorous academic instruction to achieve their most ambitious post-secondary path. The Center Program Lead will serve students with significant disabilities including serious emotional, autism, multiple disabilities and intellectual disabilities, depending on the Center Program. The Lead will develop and incorporate a variety of curriculum to include literacy, math, language skills, behavioral skills, social-emotional regulation, adaptive and vocational skills. The Lead teacher provides instruction at the large group, small group, and individual level. The Center Program Lead teacher should be committed to working collaboratively with teachers and the school community to develop an inclusive model that strives to incorporate research based interventions in a center based classroom, the general education classroom and the surrounding community. The Center Program Lead supports administration, teachers, para-professionals, the student body and parents in the achievement of each student’s academic, behavioral and social success. They should be experienced in teaching and implementing positive behavior supports to facilitate learning in the areas of academic, communication, executive functioning, behavioral, and social-emotional regulation.
Essential Functions:
At DSST, teachers are leaders who play an integral role in ensuring student success through:
- The promotion of cultures of difference
- Developing and instructing a rigorous core curriculum that is responsive, relevant, and youth informed
- Using data to analyze and drive their daily practice.
- Taking personal accountability for their impact to improve the minds, outcomes and lives of youth, and are reflective of their practice in order to be responsive to their students.
- Creating learning environments to support youth in owning their learning & academic success.
- Modeling and maintaining high expectations for all learners
- Identifying personal strengths that will support the school’s core values, guiding philosophy, expectations, and school spirit.
Classroom Teaching
- Exhibit mastery and enthusiasm for the assigned academic subjects and classes
- Work closely and collaboratively with students, parents, and other teachers within the school and throughout the DSST network.
- Teach 3-5 classes a day of various lengths depending on the DSST campus and subject area.
- Use the network’s curriculum and standards to plan and implement targeted lessons and assessments for each student including differentiating for the needs of all learners.
- Keep an up-to-date gradebook for each class.
- Work to implement and master DSST Public Schools’ core instructional and culturally responsive and relevant teaching practices
- Which include Tone & Presence, Student Engagement, Classroom Routines, Checks for Understanding, Restorative Justice, etc.
Data and Analysis
- Implement a variety of network assessments depending on grade level.
- Use assessment data to identify and address any racial, gender, special education and linguistically diverse inequities and disparities across all data points.
- Use of data to adapt lessons and instructional practices to help students meet the school's performance standards.
- Use of data includes re-teach weeks, spiraling skills, and using varied techniques/differentiating to meet student needs.
Professional Development
- Engage in weekly feedback sessions with an instructional coach.
- Seek out and request opportunities for growth and continuous self-improvement in teaching, both in and out of the classroom.
- Willingness to engage in constructive dialogue with students, colleagues, and school administration.
- Actively support and participate in the school’s professional development programs
- This includes weekly staff meetings, data analysis and designing, planning, leading, and participating in best practice sessions, and peer coaching.

- Serve as a recruiter for new students; actively engage prospective families in an effort to draw more students to choose your school; be willing to take on additional tasks to support recruitment, as needed
- Student Advisor
- Serve as an advisor to a small group of advisees by overseeing their academic and student life
- Leading weekly Advisory activities and lessons
- Taking attendance & checking homework completion
- Holding regular academic and behavioral conferences
- Meeting & communicating with families regularly
- If applicable, leading reading and culture circles
- Serve as an advisor to a small group of advisees by overseeing their academic and student life
Grade level teammate
- Participate in weekly meetings to support student culture and academics for the whole grade.
- Participate in data tracking and observations for students via Multi-tiered Systems of Supports (MTSS)
- Participate in planning and execution of grade level events.
Weekly Staff Meetings
- Participate in weekly whole school staff meetings to support school culture and teacher initiatives
- Participate in planning and proctoring extra teacher responsibilities throughout the week, as needed
- Lunch Duty, Morning Duty, After School Duty, Enrichment, Academic Interventions (College Prep, Mandatory Tutoring), Hallway duty, etc.
- Behavioral Support Intervention (depending on campus)
- Refocus, silent lunch, core values point system, etc.
- Support as a substitute teacher if necessary

Compensation and Benefits:
The salary range for this position is $52,000-$70,000 and is commensurate with experience*
- Final salary may be adjusted based on years of experience in a relevant, aligned role of similar level and responsibilities up to 10 years of experience.

DSST Public Schools (DSST) operates a network of tuition-free, open-enrollment public STEM charter schools.
