The Vision: Healthy, flavorful local foods accessible year-round to all of Colorado.

The Key Activities:

  • Make and sell delicious, responsibly-processed local foods and ingredients to Colorado residents, visitors, and restaurants. Sales beyond Colorado will be made as a way to support the mission of community food systems.
  • Provide additional sales outlets and marketing opportunities for small, local farmers .
  • Develop lines of products that range from expensive specialty goods to foods priced to support community food security. Provide these products in a way that maximizes accessibility.
  • Reduce food waste by developing systems that use blemished, over-ripe, undersized, or unsold fruit and vegetables.

Note: We will not produce alcohol or cannabis products.

Roles and Responsibilities for the Position:

  • Work within systems of harvest logistics to coordinate the purchase and transport of produce to processing facilities.
  • Work with farmers to plan harvest and set prices that are beneficial to both.
  • Coordinate ripening, sorting, storage, disposal, and processing of produce into marketable ingredients and value-added products.
  • Manage hiring and labor for the production of marketable ingredients and value-added products (e.g., coordinate H2A hiring and compliance).
  • Manage the construction of facilities. Strategize growth in capabilities (e.g., new equipment purchases).
  • Participate in the labor of processing fresh produce into marketable ingredients and value- added products.
  • Develop systems, train, and manage for Food Safety, GAP, HAACP, and other compliance regulations.
  • Coordinate maintenance of facilities and equipment.
  • Spearhead sales and marketing efforts for products and ingredients (e.g., social media, one-pagers, traveling sales calls, events, dinners, farm hospitality).
  • Adhere to data-driven business practices. Track hours and activities for each entity to best analyze the efficiency and effectiveness of each.
  • Create, monitor, and work within budgets for each entity.
  • Work with food security organizations to bring to market products that are affordable, nutritious, and shelf-stable.
  • Develop, test, and launch recipes for new products.
  • Coordinate product sales and logistics (e.g., might include driving product around the state).
  • Apply for grants to subsidize the costs of business.
  • Hire and manage additional employees and contractors as needed.
  • Develop additional strategies to accomplish our goals.

Job Requirements

  • Food science experience(formal education preferred but not required)
  • A head for business and marketing
  • A commitment to doing whatever it takes to bring small batch foods to market
  • A heart for the cause of celebrating and supporting local food systems.

Location

To limit excess travel, we strongly encourage the successful applicant to live in or relocate inside a geographic triangle bounded by Paonia, Orchard
Mesa, and Montrose, Colorado. We anticipate that 90% of production would be conducted in the Hotchkiss area and at Honey Rock Landing (located at 2444
Dominguez Canyon Road, Delta,
Colorado).

Hours and Compensation

  • Hours, workload, and activities will vary by season. Expect long hours in late summer with slower periods in other seasons.
  • As an entrepreneur, also expect high levels of autonomy and responsibility.
  • $40,000 to $60,000 salary plus benefits and bonus during startup period, with meaningful profit-sharing as the businesses matures.
  • Bonus from 10% to 100% of base salary.
  • Relocation expenses available.

Juice Company.

Our new puree line will be arriving soon. Right away, you will be in charge of preparing the facilities, overseeing installation, attending trainings, achieving food safety certifications, and becoming the operating expert.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $40,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
