Overview:

Skills and capabilities of the person in this role include:
  • Develop strategies to enhance compliance by all individuals in Infection Prevention efforts.
  • Conduct surveillance of identified HAi's and completes required reporting to federal and state entities.
  • Be informed of national and regional infection control initiatives that are appropriate for adaptation and work toward implementation of identified strategies as part of an overall comprehensive program.
  • Serve as a liaison regarding infection prevention initiatives. Provide periodic status reports regarding infection prevention and HAI initiatives and results within the medical center.
  • Establish mechanisms to communicate progress and barriers toward effective initiatives.
  • Participate as active member of committees and teams to provide infection prevention safety perspective, as assigned.
  • Train and mentor new Infection Preventionists.
  • Demonstrated ability in interpretation of Surveillance Data.
  • Coordinate annual Infection Prevention risk assessment based on surveillance data.
  • Collaborate with Emergency Management team on preparations to handle major emergencies.
  • Engage in continual evaluation of Infection Prevention strategies and modify program if needed.
  • Recognized as subject matter expert in Infection Prevention field. Shares knowledge with others.
  • Track and trend reporting data to provide reports to departments, committees, and leaders to drive infection prevention improvement work.
  • Provide ongoing infection prevention education programs regarding evidence-based behavior and practices that support HAI reduction.
  • Recommend process/safety changes to improve infection prevention based on identified risks, proactive assessment, and national standards.
  • Demonstrate expertise in clinical patient care; model application of infection prevention best practice standards.
  • Proven ability to interpret outcomes data and make targeted changes to improve infection prevention programs and initiatives.
  • Performs other work duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelors of Science in clinical healthcare or health sciences related field (e.g. nursing, lab sciences, public health or related field)

Licensure: None required

Experience: 5+ years clinical healthcare related experience

Certification/Registration: Certification in Infection Prevention (e.g. CIC) or equivalent required within 3 years of hire

Other Skills and Knowledge:
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proven leadership ability
  • Knowledge of complex hospital and healthcare systems, processes and quality/performance improvement
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and analytical skills. Effective change
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Knowledge of the internet, evidence-based medicine, analytical skills and good clinical inquiry and investigational aptitude
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Strong public speaking skills and demonstrated ability in presenting to a variety of co-workers, including physicians, clinicians, administration, and support staff
  • Self-directed and able to perform independently with minimal oversight
  • Ability to travel throughout the hospital on a high frequency basis

Preferred Qualifications:

Education: Master's of Science degree (healthcare or public health related) Licensure:

Experience: 7+ years clinical healthcare related experience. 3+ years infection prevention experience
