ELIGIBLE PERSONS
At the time of application and appointment, applicants must have:
A high school diploma or its equivalent;
AND At least one (1) year of full-time paid experience in one of the following: warehouse operations, inventory management or retail sales, which must include inventory control;
A valid State of Michigan Driver's License and an acceptable, safe driving record. (INDICATE MICHIGAN DRIVER'S LICENSE NUMBER ON THE FRONT OF THE APPLICATION.)
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
Candidates may be rejected for an unsatisfactory criminal background check related to this classification. Candidates must be in good physical condition and capable of lifting heavy items.
As a condition of employment, appointees must:
1. Maintain good physical condition and the ability to perform all duties including lifting heavy items up to 75 pounds.
2. Qualify for and obtain a permit, within their probationary period (to be issued by DPS), to operate a Fork Lift
in accordance with State Regulations.
DESCRIPTION OF MAJOR JOB DUTIES
Storekeepers in the Department of Public Services are responsible for receiving, inspecting, storing, and issuing supplies; filling customer requisitions; preparing documentation for supplies received, rejected and issued; entering data into a computer; taking periodic inventories; keeping stock in order; cleaning the stockroom; loading supplies such as oil drums, cement bags, cement blocks, castings, etc., which may weigh several hundred pounds; be able to operate a fork lift; climb ladders in order to stock or retrieve supplies; and capable of lifting stock weighing less than 75 lbs.
Storekeepers are also located in the Sheriff's Department, Management and Budget, the Health Department and the Juvenile Detention Facility. Responsibilities include: filling requisitions, keeping records of goods received and distributed; and picking up orders from the central stockroom as well as delivering stock to various sites. In addition to the above duties, Storekeepers in the Nutrition Services Division are also responsible for properly receiving/storing and rotating all food supplies and maintaining stock according to the standards established by the Michigan Department of Public Health.
TYPES OF TESTS
A Physical Skills test (pass/fail) will be administered to determine physical agility and strength required for the job. A Written test (55%) will be administered covering basic math skills, knowledge of inventory, storekeeping, and record keeping practices and related knowledge. Personal Qualifications Interview will be rated at (45%).
