Ulster BOCES is seeking an experienced, organized, and resourceful Reading Specialist for our student-based programs. The teacher will provide 1:1 and small-group student reading intervention as well as professional development to teachers. The successful candidate will possess strong communication skills, experience and knowledge with guided reading, literacy centers, phonics, comprehension, and fluency, and be comfortable with facilitating professional development and coaching. Experience with special education populations is desirable. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate successful presentation, organizational, and time management skills. Current position is full-time. Fingerprinting required.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Primary focus is to provide 1:1 and small group student reading intervention
  • Additionally, provide professional development, modeling, and coaching in phonics, fluency, comprehension, and writing
  • Collect and analyze data to drive literacy instruction
  • Collect and disseminate current literacy research
  • Work with Ulster BOCES programs and schools to promote successful literacy practice in classrooms grades K-12
  • Multi-task multiple projects
  • Certification in Orton-Gillingham or willingness to become certified

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
NYS Certification as Literacy (Birth - Grade 6) or Literacy (Grades 5-12), NYS Certification as Elementary Teacher (Grades 1-6) or NYS Certification in Special Ed.
