Position Summary

NOTE: CHATTAHOOCHEE VALLEY COMMUNITY COLLEGE OBSERVES EASTERN TIME. ALL TIMES SHOWN ARE IN EASTERN TIME.

Under the general direction of the Director of QEP (Quality Enhancement Plan) and Student Services, the employee conducts intrusive advising/coaching for students, provides workshops, develops academic plans and educational goals with students, and assists in the Career Center.

Salary: Appropriate placement on Salary Schedule E3, Grade 5: $34,016-$48,728.

Unofficial transcripts are acceptable for application; however, official transcripts may be requested by the College prior to extension of an employment agreement to the successful candidate. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

1. Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
2. Work flexible hours to accommodate students' needs.
3. Work with students in cohort-assigned classes.
4. Hold weekly meetings with assigned students and provide proactive advising in person, virtually, and electronically. Coordinates communications to students utilizing intentional advising plans that engage students regarding personal and professional goals, course scheduling, core major requirements, and academic resources.
5. Assist in the development of student success initiatives.
6. Facilitate student success workshops.
7. Facilitate workshops and training sessions for faculty and staff.
8. Assess students' needs and refer students to the appropriate support services at the College and assist them in scheduling appointments.
9. Develop academic plans and establish educational goals with students.
10. Interpret career assessment data to assist students in career exploration and planning.
11. Assist in the Career Center.
12. Document all services and student contacts in a timely fashion.
13. Complete and submit all federal, state, and local documents as required.
14. Assist with student advising, registration, pre-college orientation, and retention of students.
15. Serve on various College committees as assigned.
16. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of QEP and Student Success, the Associate Dean of Student Development and Success, Dean of Students and Campus Services, or the President.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Adhere to all policies and procedures set forth by the College.
2. Maintain confidentiality of identified sensitive information and of departmental information.
3. Remain current in and enhance professional knowledge and skills through professional development and continuing education.
4. Interact with and serve diverse student and employee populations in a courteous and friendly manner.
5. Adhere to College standards of professionalism and confidentiality, including courteous and friendly interaction with other CVCC employees.
6. Maintain appropriate work hours as outlined in State and College policies and assigned by supervisor or dean.
7. Recruit potential students, both traditional and nontraditional, to the College, and assist in retention efforts.
8. Represent the institution in a positive manner.
9. Participate in registration, pre-college orientation (NSE), and college events as assigned.
10. Serve on committees as assigned.
11. Participate in graduation and other college activities.
12. Participate in the College's planning process.
13. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • One (1) year full-time experience working in education, social services, counseling, or a related field with work experience relevant to the essential duties and responsibilities of this position
  • High degree of workplace professionalism
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work independently
  • Proficiency in public speaking before both small and large groups
  • Ability to work a flexible, nonstandard work week
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, proficiency in the English language
  • Strong computer skills, proficient use of the Microsoft Office suite
