Position Overview

Reporting to the School Director, the Substitute Teacher will be assigned to work in the absence of a Facilitator, and be responsible for general classroom management and supervision. The Substitute Teacher will plan and implement activities for learners that balances physical, social and emotional growth, prepares materials for learners to explore and learn, and conduct activities in a safe, organized and healthy environment.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Follow the instructions left by the Facilitator or alert the Administrator if there are no plans to follow.
  • Check to ensure that there are sufficient supplies in the classroom to carry out lesson plans.
  • Maintain normal classroom routines and discipline procedures.
  • Teach all subjects and other appropriate learning activities according to curriculum requirements, the iLEAD charter and policies developed by the Governing Board.
  • Effectively use a broad range of instructional strategies, including providing a constructivist curriculum, challenging goals and effective feedback, differentiated instruction and backward mapping, among others.
  • Incorporate a focus in enriching the curriculum by implementing a plan of Project-based Learning.
  • Execute planned learning experiences provided by Facilitators in order to motivate learners and best utilize instruction time.
  • Provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each learner.
  • Establish and maintain outstanding classroom management skills needed to achieve a functional and supportive learning atmosphere.
  • Evaluate learners’ academic and social growth and keep appropriate records, providing input on progress reports and ILP as requested by Facilitator.
  • Maintain professional competence through participation in professional learning activities provided by the school and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Perform basic attendance accounting and business records as required.
  • Effectively use advanced technology as a learning tool; able to integrate technology into teaching.
  • Provide standards-based instruction; align curriculum and standards and adopt grading practices that can be used in standards-based and performance-based grading.
  • Assumes responsibility for overseeing learner behavior in classroom.

Other Responsibilities

  • Provide ongoing support and actively collaborate with all iLEAD Schools leaders and employees to ensure that the mission, vision, values and philosophy of iLEAD Schools is clearly understood and carried out.
  • Represent iLEAD Schools in a positive and professional manner in all interactions and communications.
  • Follow and actively participate in development of all iLEAD Schools guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Maintain professional competence through participation in professional development activities provided by iLEAD Schools and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Perform other responsibilities as defined by the iLEAD Schools Executive Team.
  • Bachelors Degree
  • Appropriate Certificate in teaching or substitute teaching.
  • Proficient in maintaining efficient classroom management skills.
  • Experience with an education setting and/or real world experience in being non-traditional, flexible, open
  • minded, and collaborative.
  • Ability to problem solve and multi-task.
  • Ability to cooperate successfully as a member of a team.
  • Demonstrated capability to maintain effective relationships in a team oriented environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
  • Very high level of personal and professional integrity and trustworthiness.
  • Thrive in a collaborative, team based and fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of iLEAD safety rules and habits.
  • Maintain confidentiality of learners and their records.
  • Establish and maintain friendly, cooperative and effective working relationships with learners, learners with
  • special needs, parents, facilitators, care team, and administration.
  • Demonstrate standards of moral character and behavior to serve as an effective role model for learners.
  • Perform physical activities which may include frequent standing, walking, bending, and/or lifting.
