Business Unit Description
The Technology & Innovation (“T&I”) Investment Banking team has deep sector expertise and proven execution capabilities combined with a full suite of capital market solutions, including corporate banking and treasury services, allowing our team to assist at every stage of our technology clients' business lifecycle. As a leader in this dynamic and rapidly changing industry, we pride ourselves on having advised, structured and financed many of the industry's most notable and complex transactions for Canada's leading technology participants, both private and public.
Our group focuses exclusively on technology and technology-enabled clients that operate in sectors such as Enterprise Software, SMB software, e-Commerce and Payments and Marketplaces.
Our ecosystem is fast changing and the successful application will help assist our clients in many capacities including mergers and acquisitions (M&A), growth financings, initial public offerings (IPO), and/or public follow-on financings.
T&I manages our market leading platform from our offices in Toronto, Vancouver, San Francisco, Montreal, Calgary and Winnipeg. The San Francisco office was recently established as part of a planned broader build-out of CIBC’s T&I platform in the United States. The office will be led by our recently hired Head of U.S. T&I, working in close collaboration with our broader T&I team in Canada.
What You’ll Be Doing
The Technology Associate will be based in San Francisco and will work directly with the lead Managing Director to build and expand the presence of CIBC’s T&I practice. The individual will provide financial modeling, analytical, structuring, research and transaction support and will assist with the execution of transactions and advisory projects such as: mergers & acquisitions, divestitures, equity and debt financings, strategic advisory/alternatives projects and full capital structure solution projects. The individual will be expected to maintain an awareness of our clients, industry, regulatory issues and relevant economic/political trends. A team approach to executing coverage and financing assignments is designed to provide progressive on the job training.
How You’ll Succeed

Research and analyze information and draft T&I proposals in conjunction with broader team
-
Conduct financial analysis, both for existing clients and on new mandates/opportunities
-
Develop financial models, determining the assumptions and methodology
-
Establish and maintain contact with clients throughout the due diligence process to obtain/provide information and advice, conduct interviews and relay information regarding the process and CIBC’s requirements

Assists in analyzing, structuring, and negotiating new M&A and related transactions

Train and mentor Analysts in financial modeling and investment banking best practices

Liaise with other units of CIBC in preparing T&I Sector reviews and proposals for clients’ financing needs

Prepare industry and financial analysis to determine the feasibility of potential financing and M&A transactions

Organize presentations to potential clients, assisting in the development of presentation information

Perform industry comparative analysis

Conduct industry research to help the group better understand developments in the T&I sector

You have:

Relevant undergraduate degree (Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering or related discipline)

Master’s degree in Business, Finance, or related field is advantageous

1-2 year experience working in or alongside the Technology sector
-
3-4 years of relevant experience in an investment banking, investment management or equivalent institution is preferred
