The Calhoun County Land Bank Authority (CCLBA) was awarded a three-year $750,000 grant to promote and support on-going neighborhood stabilization efforts in the Washington Heights Neighborhood through the activation of CCLBA owned properties in the neighborhood, which includes funding to hire an additional staff member. Staff is 18 months into this work, and established a seventeen-member, neighborhood led, Advisory Committee to guide the project.The CCLBA owns over two hundred properties in the Washington Heights Neighborhood on Battle Creek’s northwest side; the vast majority of those are vacant residential lots. The project’s goal is to create a land re-use plan strategy by reviewing and activating these parcels based on the community’s needs and input. Staff is hopeful that this work will create possibilities for residents through property ownership and development opportunities, skilled-trades training, and participation in long-term visioning for the area. Specific project areas include demolition, rehabilitation, infill development, as well as creative investment and land activation. Planned activities also support our agency’s vision of being a catalyst for stabilization through the creation of equitable and inclusive opportunities. Key to the project’s success will be the engagement of neighborhood residents, business owners, and community leaders. In addition, this work should be linked with other activities and resources currently available in the neighborhood.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Under the general direction of the Executive Director, and working closely with the Property & Program Coordinator, performs specific duties to support the CCLBA team to fulfill work funded through a grant from the W. K. Kellogg Foundation and other resources. These duties include, coordinating meetings, events, and communication between the Advisory Committee, stakeholders, residents, and organizations, conducting property evaluations and analysis, assisting with project creation and implementation, archiving, researching, and analyzing data, and providing support utilizing Microsoft Suite, social media, and other software as needed. This person is also responsible for taking and preparing meeting minutes under the Open Meetings Act. In addition, the successful candidate would help uplift voices and encourage participation from community members that have been traditionally excluded from the decision-making process. Part-Time, Non-Exempt. Up to 30 hrs/week, flexible schedule, with some evening and weekend work required for Advisory Committee meetings and/or other events. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Associate degree, or equivalent college courses or work experience, with job experience and knowledge of the Washington Heights Neighborhood preferred. Strong communication, organizational and proficient computer skills are necessary. Must have the capacity to work independently with good judgement as well as the ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.
