We are excited to be part of another significant redevelopment project. As part of JFK Millennium Partners (“JMP”), the preferred partner of Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, Vantage has been selected to design, build, finance, operate, and maintain Terminal 6 and 7 at John F. Kennedy (“JFK”) International Airport. For this project, Vantage has partnered with American Triple I (ATI), a 100% minority and woman owned investor and developer, and RXR Realty, a leading New York commercial real estate development firm, with AECOM Hunt as the design-build team. The project is to proceed in two phases of construction, with the first phase to include the development of the new Terminal 6 headhouse and departures area on a vacant site adjacent to the existing Terminal 7. Once that has been completed, JMP will demolish the existing Terminal 7 and construct an additional five gates, after which, JMP would then manage, operate and maintain the new facilities.

The Role

The Terminal Duty Manager, in collaboration with the Senior Director, Operations, is responsible for the safe and secure day to day operations of Terminal 7 with a primary focus on operational performance and customer service. The Terminal Duty Manager provides supervision to the Shift Managers and IOC Coordinator roles and ensure compliance with applicable regulations, rules, policies and procedures that are in keeping with airport best practices, and working pro-actively to identify and mitigate operational risks.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Coordinates and manages the overall day-to-day activities in the terminal, apron and curbside; leads staff resource planning and allocation for Operations Center
• In collaboration with the Senior Director, Operations, provides management to the terminal and airside operations within JMP’s leased areas, including ensuring the smooth-functioning of the terminal’s Operations Center
• Ensures JMP’s operations are compliant with federal, state and local laws, regulations, rules and ordinances related to airport and commercial aviation operations, environmental and worker safety including occupational hazards and safety precautions
• Develops and implements service level failure mitigation plans
• Provides leadership for the implementation of programs for
  • The inspection of terminal buildings and ground transportation facilities, including concourses, terminals, gate areas, concession areas, interior and exterior of buildings, sidewalks, and public access roadways to assure the safety, security and efficiency of terminal and ground transportation operations
  • Monitoring the activities of tenants, licensees, maintenance, and security personnel during assigned shift, to ensure compliance with airport standards and regulations;
• Establishes and builds relationships with all terminal tenants and partners including airlines, and government agencies
• Executes on performance measurements set for key areas of operations; works with functional leads to use performance results to drive a culture of continuous improvement
• As needed, provides incident leadership and applies incident command practices
• Executes on quality assurance in all operational programs including Safety Management System, and Terminal Security Program
• Participates in budget preparation, development of forecasts, major work programs
• Is the Terminal Security Coordinator after hours, and point of contact for security and emergency events
• Acts as JMP Emergency Operations Center (EOC) senior representative during T7 emergencies, as required; coordinates public safety efforts for the T7, including police, fire and emergency medical services communications and dispatch
• Liaises with the JMP Project Management group to jointly ensure that T7 operates safely, securely and efficiently, complying with all regulations, policies and contractual obligations during construction phasing
• Other duties as required or assigned from time to time.

Education and qualifications

• 5 years in an operations management role including 3-5 years in a supervisory capacity, preferably in an aviation or airport setting
• Experience working effectively in a regulated environment
• Experience in crisis management and incident command preferred
• Capital project management experience preferred
• Track record of successfully managing and motivating teams; able to lead training
• High school graduation; relevant university or college degree preferred
• Excellent written and verbal communications
• Organization and planning skills crucial for multi-tasking while prioritizing and executing tasks
• Ability to diffuse and manage situations in high pressure situations

You have strong operational experience within an international airport or other transportation hub and your professional experience is supplemented by a relevant degree from an accredited university. You are a collaborative team player who also enjoys working independently and are comfortable working with a diverse set of stakeholders.
