Job description
- Purpose
The Therapist provides counseling, educational and related services to clients and family members while cooperating with other community agencies to promote services. The Therapist works in coordination with the Program Manager and Director of Clinical Services along with other staff to provide counseling treatment services.
- Essential Functions
The essential functions of the Therapist are:
- Facilitates Outpatient groups that specifically address Outpatient clients maintenance and long-term treatment needs
- Makes clinical recommendations on need and frequency of Individual Therapy to all clients on caseload
- Manages caseload to ensure tracking client attendance to required program services including but not limited to group and individual attendance and Service Planning updates.
- Liaises with
- Ensures inquiry calls are managed with a constant sense of urgency, including timely, strategic follow-up and connections
- Maintains and organizes the fidelity measures for compliance with the following programs: Seeking Safety, Motivational Interviewing, and the Matrix Model.
- Liaises with The Haven Residential & Intensive Outpatient program staff and referring agencies to coordinate treatment services. Develops and implements service plans with client participation.
- Works closely with adult recovery teams, clinical teams, and other professionals both within and outside the agency to plan, provide and promote the individual’s ongoing recovery
- Facilitates Trauma based and Psycho Educational group sessions as assigned
- Maintains electronic member records in accordance with requirements set forth by the agency, ADHS and other funding sources within the electronic medical record system.
- Uses empathy and active listening skills to build trust and to identify client issues and treatment needs
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides team support to include IOP and OP group coverage
- Coordinates the treatment planning process with clients to include conducting clinical staff reviews
- Provides clinical services in the home, when indicated
- Conducts efficient, detailed Substance Use Disorder Intake Assessments to determine if potential clients meet the ASAM Criteria to enter The Haven 90-day treatment program. Provides referrals for other supportive services on an as needed basis.
- Relays pertinent client information between Haven programs via electronic treatment reports and clinical team meetings
- Prepares routine reports and correspondence and coordinates treatment plans with community agencies and staff
- Continually improves quality of therapy provided via input from clinical supervision, professional conference attendance and analysis of clinical literature.
- Counsels clients, family members and significant others in the operation and goals of the program and the problems of recovery and re-entry into the community
- Promotes The Haven’s programs in the community including State, County, and City government agencies and other healthcare facilities. Develops a rapport with community agencies to encourage client referrals.
- Performs other administrative and clinical responsibilities assigned by the Program Manager
- Qualifications
Education
- Master's degree in addiction counseling, social work, psychology, counseling or related behavioral health field plus two years of relevant work experience
- A license in Social Work, Counseling, Substance Abuse or Marriage and Family Therapy obtained through the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners is preferred. If not, must have the ability to obtain a license through the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners within six months of hire.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Demonstrates clinical competency in accordance with standards for the position
- Extensive knowledge of drugs of choice (illegal and prescribed) and the dynamics of substance use/addictive behaviors
- Extensive knowledge of substance use treatment models
- Extensive knowledge of community resources
- Familiarity with 12-step program, SMART, and recovery support groups
- Superior oral and written communication skills
- Intermediate to advanced computer skills using MS Office products, Word, Excel and ability to import/export date to/from applications
- Must possess good customer service skills
- If in recovery, applicant must have a minimum of two years continued sobriety
- Extent of Public Contact
Interacts with external entities, with all levels of Haven personnel and with Haven clients
