FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE

The purpose of this position is to maintain the accuracy of the student transportation management systems (TIMS) database by assigning students to school bus stops and assigning stops to bus runs in a manner that adheres to local and state policies; and performs radio dispatch and other administrative work.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Dispatches any radio calls about late buses, break downs, accidents/emergencies, bus substitutions, and any calls about active buses.
• Processes bus stop requests which requires the assignment of students to a safe existing bus stop or adding a new stop on a bus route in an efficient manner.
• Performs updates to bus/student rosters as they come in, making any necessary changes by adding and/or removing students/stops, and reordering stops to reflect the correct time and/or information.
• Uses GPS to local school buses during breakdowns, to route those persons needing assistance from one location to another, looks up information on speeding buses, late buses, and to see which buses may travel specific roads, etc.
• Responds to emails, answers phone calls, scans, faxes, printed documents, route calls, two-way radio etc.
• Provides customer service to parents/guardians, or district personnel regarding inquiries determining student drop off location and times.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of and ability to use computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and other programs such as Edulog Software, Synovia Software, PowerSchool, and EveryInfor used for student information and transportation systems information.
• Knowledge of Family Educational Rights Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations and how they may apply to sharing student information. Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion.
• Knowledge of common administrative tools and processes such as copiers, fax machines, scanners, phone systems, and email.
• Knowledge of transportation bus routes, and other aspects of school planning.
• Knowledge of and ability to use basic math skills used to add, subtract, multiply, divide, or to determine fractions or ratios.
• Knowledge specific to reading and using maps and district boundaries and ability to use same.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with bus drivers, coordinators, principals, and central office administrators, parents, and students.
• Ability to read maps
• Ability to plan, organize, and analyze normal work activities.
• Bilingual positions are required to have the ability to read, write, and speak fluently in required language.
• Ability to schedule buses effectively.
• Ability to effectively communicate orally or in written form with parents, drivers, and other school personnel.
• Ability to respond to inquiries using tact and professionalism.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• Minimum: High school Diploma or GED
• Minimum: Bilingual positions are required to read, write and speak fluently in required language.
• Desirable: Previous experience with student information systems such as Power School and Transportation Information Systems, such as TIMS strongly recommended. Knowledge of Edulog Software, Synovia Software preferred.

Pay Grade 60 - $2,600.00 Minimum Monthly Pay Rate - Full Time Position
