JOB
Performs responsible skilled work in the operation, maintenance, repair and replacement of tub grinder and associated tools, equipment and work aids; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision of the Compost Supervisor.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Loads yard and wood waste into tub grinder and mills into acceptable mulch for sale;Adjusts wheels, hammers and screens to size wood chips and/or mulch;Inspects wood and removes rocks or foreign objects;Feed wood into tub grinder using loader arm;Inspects tub grinder daily for leaks, wear and tear;Greases tub grinder wheels twice daily and loader arm once daily;Performs scheduled maintenance on tub grinder;Replaces hammers, inserts, hydraulic hoses, filters and hydraulic fluids;Changes engine oil and air filters;Replaces worn or broken parts;Works with loader operators to assist in loading material in tub grinder and removing finished product to storage area;Perform all safety-related duties and tasks as acting Safety Coordinator for the City of High Point Compost Facility such as attending safety meetings and keeping the ICF compliant with all safety rules and regulations;Ensures that all equipment is safe to operate;Fills-in on the rubber tire loader or scalehouse when others are out or not available;Ensures that all work is performed in accordance with OSHA and City Safety Standards and Policies. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
QualificationsHigh School Diploma, GED or equivalent.Amount of training either on the job or formal education, usually associated with this occupation in addition to the reasoning, Math and Language detailed below: on the job training approximately 3 months. Formal education which includes High School Diploma or GED, basic reading and writing, Considerable experience in the operation and maintenance of heavy motorized equipment including some experience in operating tub grinders.Valid North Carolina CDL Driver’s License required; class A preferred. Physical RequirementsHearing/Speaking – Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken word. Perceive nature of sounds by ear. Necessary to converse with supervisor, employees, and the general public.Visual Abilities – the ability to perceive the nature of objects by the eye is required for this position: Acuity, far – clarity of vision at 20 feet or more. Both eyes 20/30 – R 20/30 – L 20/30 corrected.Acuity, mid-range – clarity of vision at ranges from 20 inches to 20 feet.Acuity, near – clarity of vision at 20 inches or less. Both eyes 20/22 corrected.Depth perception – Three-dimensional vision. Ability to judge distance and space relationships to see objects where and as they are. Depth Perception – 4.Field of Vision – the area that can be seen up and down or to the right or left while eyes are focused on one point. Accommodation – Must be able to adjust the eye lens to bring an object into sharp focus. This item is especially important when doing near-point work at varying distances from eye. Physical Strength – degree of physical demands typically associated with this position include: Medium to Heavy Work: Exerting considerable force from 20 to 50 pounds constantly, and 100 pounds or more of force occasionally with assistance, in operation of motorized equipment and hand tools. Environmental ConditionsPhysical SurroundingsThe worker is subject to both Inside and Outside environmental conditions: Exposed to various weather conditions and temperatures. The worker will be exposed to weather which is extremely hot and/or cold.Environmental conditions (Hazards) usually associated with this classification: Employee will be exposed to rain, sleet, snow, flooding, high winds, cold and hot weather, trash, grass, sand, dirt, tar, debris and insects. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Must have an appropriate driver license (CDL) issued by the State of North Carolina. Must be able to understand and follow oral and written directions and able to work overtime when necessary. Must have general knowledge of traffic rules and regulations governing equipment operation and transportation, general knowledge of the principles and practices of operating and servicing tub grinder equipment, thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions, rules and regulations necessary to the proper operation of tub grinding and loader equipment, good knowledge of buyer’s markets as related to wood chips and mulch. Must be able to control traffic around work areas. Must have mechanical aptitude and ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment.
