Essential Function of the Job

The Veterans Service Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Supportive Services for Veteran Families Program by providing oversight of case management services to help at risk households meet basic needs and remain stably housed, through financial assistance, case management supports, referrals and outreach activities. Complete and present reports to supervisor of program outcomes and identified needs.

  • Receive referral for household who are in danger of eviction.
  • Complete household assessment to determine eligibility for assistance
  • Collaborate with other EightCAP, Inc. departments, Veterans Affairs, Veteran Service Officers, local resources, legal aid, and District Court to maximize a positive outcome for the client.
  • Coordinate outreach activities to market the program to assist in the recruitment of eligible veteran households to expend program funds. This includes attending Veterans Court where applicable.
  • Responsible for maintaining positive relationships with landlords and their representatives. Help facilitate solutions that are satisfactory to both landlords and tenant to maintain/secure housing for enrolled households.
  • Provide case management oversight for the Veteran Services Specialists for each client during their enrollment period.
  • Engage in regular required communication with Supervisor to provide information to funding source.
  • Provide information to the community about the Supportive Services for Veteran Families Program.
  • Ensure Payments and billings are processed in a timely manner.
  • Ensure accuracy of client records. Responsible for all required reports to be completed and submitted in a timely and organized manner. Entering of real-time data into FACSPro or required data systems.
  • Ensure all grant requirements are met.
  • Additional and other duties as assigned.

Requirements of Work

  • Understand EightCAP’s mission and purpose. Adhere to EightCAP’s Standards of Conduct, Program Philosophy (where applicable) and maintain confidentiality of client and organizational information.
  • Provide high quality customer service in a prompt, respectful, and professional manner. Conduct formal/informal assessment of eligible for EightCAP, Inc. programs and make referrals as appropriate.
  • Consistently perform job duties accurately and timely; cost conscious when utilizing materials and resources; seek opportunities for improving processes; and meet commitments and deadlines.
  • Demonstrate safe work habits. Report unsafe conditions and incidents. Participate in the maintenance of a clean and safe work environment.
  • Effectively participate as a team member at multiple organizational levels and across departments.
  • Ability to supervise staff who work in different locations within the EightCAP service area (Gratiot, Isabella, Montcalm & Ionia Counties).
  • Understand and meet organizational goals/objectives related to position including agency strategic plan and ROMA plan as well as taking on duties that are not related to position as supports for management staff/support staff to reach program goals/objectives.
  • Effectively communicate with other staff, clients, partners, and the public in a manner that is tactful, sensitive, and respectful. Demonstrate active listening. Body language and tone are consistent with verbal message. Demonstrates friendly, positive “can do” attitude. Oral and written communication is clear, concise, and accurate.
  • Continually improve skills through a variety of opportunities external and internal with particular attention to areas identified in the Professional Development Plan and other goals set related to improvement. Improve outcome results of assessments related to job position, client outcomes, and organizational goals. Attend Staff in-services and other training opportunities as available.
  • Manage crisis situations in a calm, positive, rational manner, and act accordingly.
  • Flexibility to work in other county offices, some evenings and weekends. Access to reliable transportation and must be willing to travel as needed. A valid Michigan driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record and reliable transportation.
  • Understand and comply with organization and regulatory policies and procedures including the reporting of child abuse/neglect as required by law.
  • Successful clearance of DHS Central Registry and Criminal History Record Check.

Required Minimum Training and Experience

  • Associates degree in relevant social services field is required. Bachelor’s degree preferred,
  • Military experience preferred.
  • Experience working with resources available through Veteran Affairs, county Veteran Service Offices and other veteran specific programs preferred.
  • Experience working with low-income households to meet basic needs including a background showing concern for problems and needs of the low-income community.
