Literacy Tutors engage in direct-service K-4 literacy tutoring (one-on-one or in small groups) AND program development and evaluation. Support recruitment of community volunteer tutors to support. Enhance volunteer tutor recruitment and training Promote and encourage peer and cross-age tutoring opportunities. Work with English Language Learners and coordinate activities to increase English proficiency. Family and community involvement events and projects, such as bi-monthly family literacy nights. Support students with school assignments. Build community-based literacy resources that can be shared across organization. Complete national service program requirements including: reporting, trainings, professional learning cluster meetings, and community service projects based around National Days of Service.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Bellevue serves youth in the Bellevue area, providing a continuum of year-round services for youth, including after-school and summer programs. The mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of Bellevue is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens. Currently operating 15 sites in Bellevue, the Club is seeking a Washington Reading Corps member to serve as a K-4 Literacy Tutors at our King County Housing Authority Clubhouse, serving primarily low-income youth. Projects in this program focus on tutoring struggling readers in Kindergarten through fourth grade, including direct service tutoring, recruitment and training of volunteer tutors, organizing family literacy events, and tracking student progress. This position is a full-time service commitment (average of 40 hours per week) for 9 months and 1,200-hour. Member stipend is $2,785 per month before taxes and education award of $4,546. Applications will be reviewed in the order in which they are received with interviews taking place until placement is filled, 3 slots total, 1 per site.
