This position performs professional, managerial, administrative, and supervisory work in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of the nutrition programs. Oversees and manages all aspects of the Supplemental Food and Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) and coordinates work with the WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor (BFPC) program, in partnership with Arapahoe County.
Generally, the hiring range is $69,535-$86,919 annually. Qualifications, education and experience as it relates to the position will be taken into consideration when determining hiring salary.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (The following examples are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive.)
- Develops, implements, and evaluates community-based health promotion, disease prevention, and food and nutrition programs. Coordinates division activities in relation to public policy process as they affect nutrition, food, and food safety.
- Assists in the development of goals and objectives for nutrition programs. Develops and implements related policies and procedural guidelines. Performs and participates in formal and informal program evaluation activities.
- Assists department administrators in determining impact of state and federal legislation on nutrition programs and services.
- Assists in the preparation of the WIC budget and monitors expenditures. Supports the writing of grant proposals.
- Supervises personnel and program operations including the assignment and review of staff work, interpretation of program and policy for staff, initiation, and management of disciplinary actions, interviewing and selection of staff, and scheduling of work time
- Plans and oversees nutrition activities and personnel between office sites to ensure division standards of operations, procedures, and quality of services are met.
- Manages designated nutrition programs as assigned. Monitors performance of contracts and evaluates program outcomes and costs.
- Plans and manages the dietetic intern program. Acts as a preceptor to provide recruiting, training, scheduling of interns. Evaluates the program and interns and assures compliance with ADA accreditation.
- Coordinates and participates in community outreach activities, public relations, and community educational activities.
- Plans and manages in-service education and staff development.
- Participates on various committees and boards related to program activities and responsibilities.
- Partner with Communications & Public Affairs to develop marketing strategies and educational materials, including the dissemination of nutrition information through website, television, radio, and print media.
- Interprets and incorporates current technology and nutrition information into nutrition practices, curriculums, and educational materials.
- Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: General supervision is provided by the Assistant Director for Community Health or Executive Director.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Has first-line direct supervisory accountabilities for all positions, employees, and activities within an assigned office, and works in conjunction with a higher-level manager.
INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT: This position requires a high level of independent judgment and understanding of program manuals, policies, procedures, and regulations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in foods and nutrition, dietetics, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- A minimum of five years of professional public health nutrition experience, including at least two years of WIC experience.
- Minimum of one year of supervisory experience required, three or more years preferred, preferably in a public health setting.
- A combination of education and experience may be considered.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge:
- Principles, techniques, practices, and procedures as related to food and nutrition services in a community public health program.
- Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
- Principles, practices, and objectives as related to health systems management and program design and implementation.
- Principles and practices of human nutrition in general health and disease in public health programs.
- Supervision, organization, and administration of public health programs.
- Leadership methods and management skills.
- Some knowledge of budget preparation and administration.
Skills:
- Identify program needs and coordinate and administer a nutrition care program based on those needs.
- Analyze fiscal and program data and make effective budget recommendations.
- Design and implement approaches to improve nutrition programs.
- Prepare accurate, clear, and concise reports.
- Ability to organize projects, communicate and delegate tasks, and engage and motivate among a broad spectrum of stakeholders, frequently under deadline pressure.
- Skill in prioritizing and organizing multiple tasks and the ability to complete projects promptly. Ability to respond flexibly and reprioritize work as situations change.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Skilled in various software packages and Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Give public presentations and lead meetings. Comfortable with public speaking.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS:
- Must be a Registered Dietitian (RD) or RDN, through Commission on Dietetic Registration and maintain registration status by completing the required Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Continuing Professional Education Units (CPEUs) and Professional Development Portfolio for each applicable five (5) year reporting period required.
- Must possess a valid Colorado Driver’s License upon hire, with complying insurance. Review of motor vehicle record is required at time of hire and periodically throughout employment.
- This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check including fingerprinting through a national database.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Physical Work Environment: Work is primarily conducted indoors with occasional time spent in an outside environment. Noise level is moderate. Incumbent is subject to frequent interruptions.
May require travel between sites or to locations in the surrounding community for presentations, educational events, and meetings. Incumbent is occasionally required to work outside normal hours to attend meetings or teach classes.
Physical Demands: Position is primarily sedentary with heavy computer use. Must be able to speak and to be understood clearly. Must be able to use a computer and associated software/hardware.
Material and Equipment Directly Used: Standard office equipment including, but not limited to, personal computer and associated hardware and software, telephone, copier, calculator, and fax; iPad or similar device; audio-visual and other teaching equipment; anthropometric equipment; and passenger vehicles (personal or County-provided).
