Are you an energetic, compassionate individual with a love for aquatics and a desire to create a safe, fun environment in our pools? Swim Lesson instructors help children and adults learn to be safe, confident and active in the water. Through a program designed to teach children and adults from beginners to advanced stroke technique, instructors are able to make a lasting difference in the lives of their community.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for students in swimming classes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines with prepared lesson plans
• Builds effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourages parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
• Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers students and parents to other programs.
• Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.)
• Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
• Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures and pool rules. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
• Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
• Trains and supervises class aides as assigned.

Schedule: Monday - Sunday various shifts.

• At least 16 years of age
• YMCA Swim Instructor certification, or equivalent
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification and Emergency Oxygen
• Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards; knowledge of swim strokes, including freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and sidestroke
• Desire to work with individuals of all ages
• Strong organizational, verbal, written and customer service skills

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques.

Ability to lift equipment, and to lift a small to average size child.
