The X-Ray Scientist will operate and maintain X-ray laboratory based computed tomography and fluorescence instrumentation.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform X-ray analysis on extraterrestrial rocks utilizing X-ray computed tomography and X-ray fluorescence techniques.
• Develop non- or minimally-destructive X-ray characterization techniques for use on current astromaterial collections (e.g. Apollo lunar samples and Antarctic meteorites), as well as planning for future collections (e.g., OSIRIS-REx and Artemis samples).
• Contribute to abstracts, peer reviewed journal articles, and grant proposals related to X-ray analysis of astromaterials.
• Process X-ray data and assist curators, researchers and other collaborators in data processing techniques, visualization, and interpretation
• Work with astromaterial processors to produce targeting physical sec
• Contribute processed data from X-ray analysis to public Astromaterials newsletters to announce new targets of opportunity for sample requests
• Perform other duties as required.

REQUIRED:

• This position requires US Citizenship or Permanent Resident status due to the sensitivity of customer related information.
• Education: Must have a bachelor's degree in the field of geosciences, or a related field.
• Years of Experience: Must have 2+ years of recent and related work experience.
• Experience processing and analyzing extraterrestrial materials.
• Experience working with X-ray computed tomography instruments and/or tomography data.

PREFERRED:

• MS or PhD in geology, biology, physics, chemistry, or a related physical science field.

WORK LOCATION:

This position is located onsite and will be on a 9/80 schedule, off every other Friday, supporting the JETS II contract.

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATIONS REQUIRED:

All Bastion employees must be able to pass a national agency check, some positions require a clearance and will require an extensive background verification/check process.
