This is an AmeriCorps national service position. It is contingent on funding and open until filled. Federal Way Public Schools AmeriCorps members support students of Federal Way Public Schools by serving within AVID elective classrooms, Core-subject classrooms, & after-school programming. AVID, our primary focus, helps historically underrepresented students gain access to college & acquire college readiness skills in an inclusive classroom environment that promotes authentic learning! This program will give you an inside look into the field of education as you serve multiple classrooms under Teacher guidance. FWPS AmeriCorps members receive ongoing training & development to best serve students. Members also receive support & coaching in a supportive environment designed to foster professional development and leadership skills. This service experience can serve as a entryway into the field of education or act as a springboard for any career specializing in youth services. This is a full-time commitment. All team members receive a monthly stipend of $3047, benefits (*as eligible), and receive an Education Award ($6,895) upon successful completion of the service term. Member Duties : FWPS AmeriCorps members make a difference! Members will engage in direct-service to students as they are assigned to one middle school or high school site to provide tutoring and general support. Members will: -facilitate in-class study groups (AVID tutorials) in multiple classrooms; -grade tutorial request forms; -support AVID Elective Teachers with classroom activities designed to help students develop college readiness skills; -support Core-Subject classrooms (Math, Science, History, English); -host an after-school homework club or support established programming; -recruit volunteers; -track and submit student data; -serve students with vigor and enthusiasm. Members serve full-time/40 hours per week, Monday-Friday for 10.5 months.
