Position Summary Information

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year accredited college or university required.
  • Minimum three years’ experience in fundraising or a closely related/comparable field.

License/Certification Required

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree, Experience in sales, philanthropic fundraising and project management.
  • Background in higher education and athletic department operations. Ability to work evenings and weekends with willingness to travel.


Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to relate to and establish relationships with donors, volunteers and colleagues.
  • Self-motivated and able to set strategic goals while implementing fundraising principles and tactics.
  • Understanding of donor/constituent database systems and the ability to analyze data, extract conclusions, and use findings to implement plans.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Assistant Director of Athletics Development will report to the Associate Athletic Director for Development and will be responsible for the annual solicitation of Yosef Club donors and prospects to grow financial support for Appalachian State Athletics.

Fundraising and philanthropic efforts to include:
  • Reach defined fundraising goals in dollars and members as set by senior-level administration
  • Solicitation of constituents and benefit fulfillment to active donors and prospects
  • Work off the assigned prospect list to evaluate, cultivate, solicit and steward donors
  • Use data and prospecting tools to find new constituents interested in Appalachian State athletics
  • Add value to the overarching athletic development unit to successfully reach and grow financial and membership goals on annual basis
  • Game day responsibilities and coordination
  • Donor/Prospect management reports
  • Athletic Development strategic planning support
  • Assist leadership in club seat and suite solicitation and strategies
  • Support athletic development team and leadership
  • Cultivate leadership annual giving donors/prospects and solicit their support
  • Work with sports programs and head coaches to ensure annual fundraising initiatives are successful
  • Ability to communicate effectively via phone and in-person meetings
  • Responsible for database management
  • Work with campus entities to ensure broad outreach to alumni, season ticket holders and fans
