General Description

The Behavioral Psychologist coordinates and participates in the delivery of behavioral psychology services. This individual trains staff and serves as a technical advisor to agency staff and provider staff in the application of behavior modification techniques. This individual performs psychological evaluations, administers psychological tests and other psycho-diagnostic assessment instruments for assessment purposes as necessary.

Qualifications

· Master’s degree from an accredited program in psychology, with a specialization in behavioral science or equivalent.

· Licensed by the State of Michigan as a psychologist (TLLP, LLP).

· Having education and demonstrated competency in behavioral assessment and behavioral change is required.

· One year experience as a behavior psychologist with emphasis on assessment of maladaptive behaviors and design of behavior change programs is preferred.

· Qualified and experienced in diagnosing Autism Spectrum Disorder is preferred.

· Possess a valid U.S. driver’s license.

· Possess the ability to use computers in a clinical setting.

· Have familiarity with managed care, state, federal, and private health insurance benefits.

· Have education and demonstrated competency in behavioral assessments and behavioral change.

· Demonstrate competency with completing psychological testing and ability to testify at court hearings.

· Experienced using validated evaluation tools to accurately diagnose Autism Spectrum Disorder and determine medical necessity service recommendations.

· Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills are required.

· Ability to demonstrate absolute discretion with confidential information is required.

· Have basic computer knowledge (such as familiarity with email and internet use) and have experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Conduct functional behavioral analysis assessments, including clinical observations, data gathering/review, recommended behavioral interventions and plan for implementation.

2. Devise charts and other instruments to be used by staff in gathering data on client behaviors.

3. Consult with staff regarding implementation of behavioral program, reviewing staff documentation for client functioning and revising programs as necessary.

4. Train staff in the use of behavior medication techniques.

5. Conduct psychological evaluations which may be required for client admission to inpatient settings, guardianship hearings, and annual evaluation as needed.

6. Administer psychological testing instruments and prepares interpretive reports.

7. Present assessments, plans and progress reviews to behavioral treatment committee per state guidelines.

8. Consult with members of other agencies regarding behavior interventions for joint consumers.

9. Regular and consistent attendance as assigned.

10. Carry out additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

· Maintain (at own expense) licensure and/or certification required to provide professional services in Michigan.

· Complete and submit documentation within required time frames.

· Maintain complete, detailed records consistent with MDHHS standards and agency procedures.

· Demonstrate a person centered approach to assessment and treatment.

· Comply with LCMHA Consumer Appeals Policy.

· Work harmoniously, collaboratively and cooperatively with staff across programs and departments within LCMHA.

· Maintain positive working relationships with agencies in the community.

· Perform duties and responsibilities in ways that promote goodwill, build positive relationships, preserve human dignity, and contribute positively to the LCMHA service organization.

· Attend LCMHA mandatory in-service training.

· Participate in LCMHA Performance Improvement Program.

· Comply with all LCMHA policies and procedures.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Duties require sufficient mobility to work in a normal office setting and use standard office equipment including a computer, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen and hearing and speech sufficient to communicate in person or over the telephone.

Should be able to bend, stretch, reach, and lift up to 20 pounds. An individual in this position needs to move about inside the office occasionally to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. The work environment involves sitting most of the time in an office environment infrequentlyexposed to extreme temperature, noise, fumes, dust, etc.

Special Position Requirements

This position requires a method of transportation to travel within Lenawee County and to meetings outside of the county when requested.
