Climate Coordinator

The New England Conference is excited to announce a search for a Part Time Climate Coordinator. The Climate Coordinator will be responsible for working with the district offices and churches to coordinate efforts to slow climate change and work for climate justice by the New England Annual Conference. This role will also work with Conference Board of Church and Society and other Conference Boards/Agencies/Committees to advise and work on creation care issues and write legislation for further creation care initiatives for New England Annual Conferences.

Primary Roles:

  • Fight climate change and work for climate justice.
  • Organize and mobilize disciples interested in fighting climate change in each state and/or district to engage in:
  • Educating our church members on what they can do to pursue lifestyles that fight climate change;
  • Help those interested in policy, to cooperate with other environmental groups, in advocating for local and state level policy that fights or mitigates climate change as well as national policy when appropriate; and
  • Work with our current Earth Keepers and encourage others to get this training.
  • Recommend resources for climate related studies and activities.
  • Keep Creation Care resources page on Conference website updated.
  • Work with Conference Board of Church and Society with reports on what Climate Coordinator and state/district groups are accomplishing every 4 months.
  • Refer churches that want to do energy audits and energy projects for either houses of worship or parsonages to the Board of Trustees property management and to the Interfaith Power and Light resources if appropriate for that state.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred
  • 3 years’ experience working in Climate Change
  • Familiar with Methodist polity and policy around climate change
  • Demonstrates extensive knowledge of climate science
  • Shows passion for the cause of climate care
  • Strong organizational and delegation skills
  • Familiarity with digital communication platforms
  • Works independently, self-starter
  • Effective public speaker, able to speak in churches on Creation Care
  • Comfortable working with ecumenical and interfaith partners
  • Ability to travel (15%) within the New England Conference is required
