RECREATION & CULTURAL ARTS DEPARTMENT

ØUnder the general direction of the Assistant Director of Cultural Arts, the Cultural Arts Assistant will perform diverse duties in the Cultural Arts Division. The Cultural Arts Assistant will provide support to the Assistant Director of Cultural Arts in events planning, public art projects, and general cultural programming. This role requires good public contact, good judgement, and considerable initiative. The ideal candidate can multi-task, is organized, and prioritizes assignments.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

· Answers phones as needed and greets the general public. Directs incoming calls to appropriate staff and takes messages. Provides assistance to persons with inquiries, problems or complaints which requires a working knowledge of departmental policies and procedures.

· Contacts vendors and outside organizations for required information such as invoices, vendor forms and descriptions of potential services.

· Drafts standard reports and correspondence and other documents for the Assistant Director of Cultural Arts.

· Coordinates, schedules, and maintains central events calendar for the division.

· Compiles research for potential grant opportunities.

· Compiles information for the bi-annual cultural guide and places information in required guide format.

· Seeks potential sponsorships for events and programs.

· Provides outreach to arts organizations, arts administrators, and artists for potential engagement in cultural events and programs.

· Assists with coordination of special events.

· Assists with writing “Calls to Artists” for public art projects.

· Provides verbal and written updates for ongoing projects and events.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma or valid equivalent. AA Degree preferred.
  • Two (2) years of relevant experience and/or training involving related assistant, events and/or programming work.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must possess a valid State of Florida class “E” driver’s license
  • Must have experience and/or knowledgeable in CANVA, Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Suite (Photoshop and Illustrator.)
  • Experience with Constant Contact highly preferred.
  • Must be collaborative, highly organized, detail oriented, able to prioritize and be flexible.

· Ability to occasionally work outside of normal office hours during work evenings and/or weekends.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $18.00 per hour
