Position Overview - Director of Sales
The Director of Sales has direct oversight of sales activities and revenues generated by guestrooms, function space, and any other hotel revenue opportunities for the hotel. This person is a highly energetic and experienced hotel sales professional that motivates team members to perform at their optimal ability. Efforts include representation of the hotel to the local community, local and national development of business opportunities, supervising sales-related personnel, and establishing revenue strategies to implement with revenue management, hotel departments, and marketing support. The individual actively generates individual revenues in guestrooms, and function space, by initiating, developing, and maintaining client relationships through prospecting efforts, sales calls, on-site hotel visits, attendance at trade shows, networking, and industry events, and other activities as needed, to achieve individual and team performance goals. This position acts as the main liaison with other hotel departments to facilitate services agreed upon by the sales office with clients.
Additional competency and responsibility involve revenue forecasting in collaboration with the hotel General Manager, active participation in marketing activities, and strategic business planning. As a member of the hotel executive committee, this role has corporate reporting responsibility and may work directly with DHG executive leadership and other key stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, hire, train and supervise sales team in all sales-related activities.
- Establish and implement strategic activities and programs in conjunction with sales, marketing, revenue management, and hotel managers to generate revenue and maximize profit opportunities.
- Actively monitor competitive positioning, core competitive set performance and mix, market trends, and demand generating events.
- Identify and pursue revenue opportunities from new and repeat business through individual direct selling activities, including telephone calls, property visits, market visits, networking events, and other activities as required.
- Demonstrate emotional resilience and guide the team with focus, consistency, and positivity through changes in market conditions, unanticipated events, and opportunities by using resourcefulness to meet challenges.
- Steer the hotel to the ideal business mix and makes business decisions with reason and sound judgment, including appropriate people in the decision process.
- Professionally represent the hotel in community and industry-related organizations and events, as needed.
Job Skills and Qualifications
- A minimum 6+ years in Hotel Sales, Catering, or Marketing managerial position is required.
- Bachelor’s degree (Hospitality or Hotel/Restaurant preferred) is required.
- Experience in managing/using sales automation (Delphi.fdc preferred) & PMS systems preferred.
- Fluency in English, both verbal and written.
- Ability to exercise effective communication, presentation, organization, time management, and listening skills.
- Ability to perform intermediate computer functions, including MS Office, Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Current Drivers’ License.
- TIPS certification, desired, required within 60 days of employment.
- Training in customer/guest relations is desirable.
- Hilton brand certification training is desirable.
