Totally Kids Rehabilitation Hospital has a position available for an Employee Health Nurse.

JOB SUMMARY

Provides nursing care/health education and guidance for the facility's employees through a program that includes first aid, care, and assistance to employees who become ill or are injured at work; facility wide immunizations/inoculations to prevent spread of communicable diseases; monitoring of employee health to protect patients and employees, prevent accidents and illness; ongoing health in-service.

Responsible for handling all the day-to-day functions of the workers compensation department according to established policies, rules and regulations. Ensures the timely processing of all workers compensation claims and evaluates accident reports to determine accuracy and completeness.

It is expected that the employee will demonstrate behavior consistent with the Core Values. The employee shall support the organization strategic plan, the goals and direction of the quality assurance performance improvement process, and activities.

Starting wage depends on type of license - LVN or RN.


REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current California license as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) as issued by the State of California is required.
  • Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support certifications preferred.
  • Minimum of one-year experience as RN or LVN in a subacute, rehab, or med/surg unit.
  • Experience in occupational health environment preferred.
  • Must possess good work ethics and a professional image at all times.
  • Knowledge of CMS conditions of participation, CDPH state regulations, CCS, and TJC (hospital, nursing care center, and laboratory) accreditation requirements as applicable to job.
  • Working knowledge of computer and software applications as applicable to job.
  • Possess strong communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills.
  • Works responsibly in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Manages confidential information effectively and appropriately.

SPECIFIC FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITY: A. Surveillance and Investigation:

  • Coordinates health history, physical exam, and required tests and x-rays for new employees. Initiates and maintains health record.
  • Coordinates annual required physicals and tests for all employees.
  • Coordinates employee vaccinations.
  • Reports and cares for on-duty work related injuries and completes related documentation and follow-up.
  • Reports and cares for needle puncture, scalpel, or similar wounds and completes related documentation, follow-up.
  • Reports and cares for employees who become ill while on duty.
  • Develops recommendations and work restrictions for personnel with infectious diseases who are involved in patient care. Coordinates return to work reporting and approval and completes related documentation.
  • May provide first aid or act as liaison with emergency department in the provision of first aid and other types of care for employees who become ill or are injured while on duty. Initiates and completes all required documentation and provides follow-up on employees so treated
  • Manages workers' compensation injury prevention; receives and processes all incidents reported regarding employee illnesses and injuries and workers' compensation.
  • Evaluates employee incident/accident reports for completeness and ensures that the proper paperwork and information has been reported.
  • Advises and educates employees regarding workers compensation matters and injury prevention when needed and/or requested. May also participate in loss prevention services with broker and insurer.
  • Coordinates return-to-work program and monitors employees in modified duty assignments who are on workers' compensation.
  • Maintains all OSHA required documents and records regarding workers compensation.
  • Coordinates employee medical leave programs related to Family Medical Leave, California Family Rights Act, and Pregnancy Disability Leave.

Education and Reporting:

  • Participates in the review, summary, and trending of infection control surveillance data and development ofreports to be submitted to Infection Control/Pharmacy and Therapeutics, and the Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI) programs as related to Employee Health.
  • Participates in the development, review, and updates of hospital infection control policies and guidelines in relation to employee health.
  • Communicates with the medical staff, clinical staff, Infection Preventionists and hospital departments andprovides support and guidance in areas related to employment health.
  • Collaborates with the Education and Human Resources departments to provide inservices on specific employee health, safety, and wellness topics.
  • Provides information and support to hospital departments and personnel on employee health issues.
  • Attends meetings and participates in committee work relevant to Human Resources, employee health, and Infection control issues.
  • Understands and assists with reporting of reportable diseases to the local health department in relation to employee health according to hospital policy, state and county regulations.

Vaccinations

  • Manages the companys vaccination program for employees to coordinates vaccination and screening of employees as appropriate.
  • Manages the documentation, tracking and reporting of employee vaccinations within the hospital and to the appropriate health agencies.
  • Provides education regarding vaccination and other infection control and prevention strategies to staff, patients, families, and the community as needed.
