The Opportunity
WSDOT is currently seeking a Highway Maintenance Worker 1's in our South Central Region. These positions will perform a variety of highway and right-of-way maintenance work to ensure the safe, efficient movement of goods, services, and people.

These positions will perform assigned tasks such as litter pickup, repair damage to guardrail and signs, patch potholes, clear brush and trees, maintain highway drainage, snow removal from bike pathways and rest areas, and performing traffic control.

What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, you/the Highway Maintenance Worker 1 will:

  • Perform day-to-day highway maintenance operations
  • Track, document, and report daily work activities.
  • Repair and maintain sprinkler/irrigation systems.
  • Maintain and repair landscape areas.
  • Perform hazardous tree removal, vegetation management, and drainage and right-of-way maintenance.
  • Conduct moving and stationary traffic control to include set up.
  • Litter pickup and removal.
  • Clean-up accident scenes, assist in repair of damage.
  • Asphalt and concrete pavement maintenance and repair.

Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • First Aid Certification within six (6) months.
  • 18 years of age or older
It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
  • Valid Flagger Certification within 6 months.
  • High School graduation or possession of a GED.
  • Demonstrate a basic knowledge of hand tools, power equipment, and some background working with equipment.
  • One year experience performing maintenance activities in a related field of work.

  • This recruitment will be used to fill multiple positions throughout the South-Central Region, which includes Pasco and Prosser.
  • This is a non-permanent opportunity.
