The Key Holder/Sales Associate supports store management in the running of the organization's resale enterprise. We are looking to hire a highly focused, hard-working, and visually creative person to join our staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Complete basic retail activities - cashiering, balancing the cash drawer, and completing closing paperwork; communicate sales information and store policies to customers; learn basic prices for store items; assist with donation receipt, processing, and pricing as directed by management; build and maintain displays as directed by management; maintain a clean, safe, and organized store environment; provide excellent customer service to every customer; help volunteer staff to become orientated to assigned tasks as directed by management; and other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Must be a strong "team player" with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, co-workers, and volunteers; previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision or alone when necessary, in both a slow and fast-paced environment.
  • Display professional conduct, demeanor and appearance, while being even-tempered.
  • Experience and comfort working with culturally diverse and senior populations.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE * Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions.

  • Excellent basic math skills.
  • Previous experience with not-for-profit second-hand or thrift store operation a plus; stock room, warehousing, sorting, experience preferred.
  • Capable of using pricing and tagging guns.
  • Visual merchandising experience preferred.
  • Cashiering experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with computers, including e-mail, internet, and Microsoft Office tools.
  • Knowledge of the file management and record keeping systems.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with internal and external stakeholders with a specific focus on customer service.
  • Good organization and time management skills.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Spanish/English bi-lingual fluency preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS * Required to frequently sit, stand, walk, and bend for extended periods; have the ability to climb a ladder and reach for items.

  • Must have visual, hearing and learning ability to sufficiently perform the essential functions defined above.
  • Can lift and object weighing a minimum of 40 pounds.

ENVIRONMENT AND SCHEDULING * Work is performed in retail setting.

  • Available to work 10-15 hours per week, including some shifts on Saturdays.
  • Duties may involve contact with persons who may be ill, given current pandemic circumstances.

Note: Individuals contacted for an interview, must pass a basic math skills test and demonstrate the ability to follow written and verbal instructions in the operation of the cash register. A cash register readiness test will be administered as a part of the interview process.
