ConMet is looking for an exceptional Vehicle Mechatronics Engineer to join the New Product Introduction (NPI) team who has a passion for creating innovative solutions for the commercial vehicles. As trends in electrification, connected vehicles, and efficiency grows rapidly, you will work within the NPI team and across the engineering organization to develop cutting-edge technology.

In the role of Vehicle Mechatronics Engineer, you will be responsible for new product design activities, technology research, prototype builds, testing, and project management. This role leads the development and integration of a wide variety of mechatronic systems comprised of pneumatic valving and distribution, sensors, actuators, electric motors, controller hardware, controls software, and data acquisition equipment.

This role requires working in an office environment (not hybrid or remote) at ConMet's corporate headquarters in Vancouver, Washington. Non-local candidates must be open to relocation (relocation assistance available).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Developing safe, robust, and reliable mechatronic systems for commercial vehicle applications
  • Systems engineering approach to requirements definition and management
  • Work closely with internal engineering, customer engineering, key suppliers, and other stakeholders to implement and verify software features, hardware requirements, and validate overall control system performance
  • Design of advanced electronically controlled pneumatic systems – air valves, distribution lines, controllers, sensing devices, etc.
  • Develop and maintain controller software
  • Understand, interpret, and produce system schematics, mechanical drawings, interface documentation
  • Data acquisition, feature and system troubleshooting, and analysis on test benches and test vehicles
  • Research and evaluate new technologies and control theory

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science, or related field
  • 5+ years of electro-mechanical design and/or control systems software experience
  • Experience with controller / embedded system software development (C, C++)

Preferred Experience

  • Knowledge of model-based design and code generation tools (Matlab/Simulink)
  • Knowledge of data acquisition equipment and scripting tools (C#, Python, LabVIEW)
  • Knowledge of communication protocols (CAN / J1939, BLE, LIN, PLC)
  • Automotive or Commercial Vehicle experience preferred
