Job Description:
Woodland Community College is seeking an equity-minded, dynamic, collaborative, and innovative Instructor to serve as Music Faculty. This is an open position: we are seeking an instructor who can build a choral and/or instrumental program at the college.

As one of two colleges in the Yuba Community College District, Woodland Community College is located in Woodland, CA. The area is an excellent choice for quality of life with close proximity to the Sierra Nevada for outdoor recreation, a burgeoning farm to fork movement, and access to the metropolitan areas of Sacramento and the San Francisco Bay Area.

The College is excited about its status as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and serves our local communities in Woodland, Esparto, and Knights Landing in Yolo County, Lake County, and Colusa County. The College serves over 3,000 unduplicated students annually in multiple associate and certificated programs. WCC prides itself on an innovative, student-centered faculty and partnerships with school districts and four-year colleges in its service area. The small college setting provides an advantage for faculty and staff to adapt to new instructional methods and processes and to foster strong interdisciplinary collaborations that benefit students.
Woodland Community College seeks a strong, well-rounded, equity-minded music educator. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience or potential to be an excellent teacher at a community college, and can provide leadership or contribute positively in areas such as: development of a Choral/Vocal and/or Instrumental program; keeping course offerings up-to date and relevant; developing the music curriculum; collaborating with area high schools; and contributing to oversight of the piano lab. We anticipate opening a beautiful performing art building in Spring of 2024. The new building will have a piano lab as well as performing arts space ideal for theatre performance, dance, instrumental performance, and choir.

Essential Duties Summary: ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
The successful candidate will demonstrate commitment to promoting and fostering a learning environment that is supportive of individuals from diverse backgrounds through effective communication and collaboration.
As a full-time faculty member, this individual will be expected to build and direct all facets of an inclusive college Choral/Vocal and/or Instrumental Program, developing a strong relationship with regional music educators and other college/district programs as appropriate. The successful candidate will be expected to organize and teach music appreciation, music history, and applied music classes with particular attention to building a diverse curriculum and engaging in culturally responsive and accessible pedagogy. They will provide instruction in accordance with course descriptions, outlines, class schedules, and Governing Board policies; evaluate progress of students concerning educational matters, develop and assess student learning outcomes, and perform other instructional-related duties as assigned. As part of a community of educators, the successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to participating in professional development opportunities that build effectiveness in areas of inclusion, intercultural communication, and advancing equity and diversity. In addition, the successful candidate will be prepared to offer oversight of a piano lab. Evening, weekend, distance education, and off-campus instruction may be part of the contract. The college offers courses in in-person, online, hybrid, and point-to-point interactive modalities.

REQUIRED DUTIES:
Provide effective instruction, work collaboratively to develop and maintain curriculum with faculty, work with regional partners, and participate in professional development and college governance.

Required Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate, by the final filing date, must possess the minimum qualifications for instructors in Music at California Community Colleges:

Possess a masters degree in music OR
Bachelors in music AND Masters in Humanities OR
The Equivalent

EQUIVALENCY:
Applicants must meet YCCD minimum qualifications by the filing date or have been awarded equivalency by the District prior to the publication of the Recruitment Announcement.

FOREIGN TRANSCRIPTS:
Include a U.S. evaluation and translation. Contact the Human Resources website for a list of agencies providing foreign transcript services.

Desired/Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of and ability to understand the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural andethnic backgrounds of community college students. Sensitivity to the needs, problems and challenges associated with the diversity of the community college student population .

EXPERIENCE:
Preference may be given to applicants with a background in developing and directing music programs at a community college.
Preference may be given to applicants with a background in piano instruction and/or other instrumental instruction
Preference may be given to applicants with experience teaching music to community college students in an equity minded and inclusive manner.
Preference may be given to applicants with experience collaborating with city or high school partners in developing community music programs
Ability to develop programs in ways that advance equitable and inclusive learning communities
Capacity to innovate curriculum to meet contemporary needs of professional fields
Successful use of online instructional technologies

COLLABORATION:
Preference may be given to applicants with excellent collaboration skills working department faculty, academic support programs and student services, and local or regional employers.

Physical Demands:
Range/Step: Class 2, Step 1 to Class 7, Step 10 (INITIAL PLACEMENT WILL NOT BE HIGHER THAN CLASS 7, STEP 10, ACCORDING TO THE ACADEMIC HANDBOOK)

Salary Range: $61,595 - $98,857 per year

Benefits Information: BENEFITS/SALARY:
The District offers a comprehensive benefits package for employees and dependent, valued at over $20,583 annually with a $310.50 monthly out of pocket expense to employees or dependents for monthly premiums. The package includes health, dental, vision, two (2) life insurance policies and an Employee Assistance program. Additional benefits include contributions to the State Teachers Retirement System (STRS), 457/403b options, 10 sick days and a 178 day contract.

In accordance to Board Policy, smoking is prohibited in the facilities and on the grounds of Yuba Community College District.

WORK DAY, WORK WEEK, and WORK YEAR:
The District has the right to establish work day, work week, work year; hours of positions within the District may vary.
