Job description
The RN - Assistant Director of Nursing assists the Director of Nursing (DON) in planning, organizing, developing, and directing the overall operation of the Nursing Services department to ensure the highest degree of quality patient care in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, and Life Care standards.
Maintains a liaison with patients, families, support departments, etc. to adequately plan for patient needs.
Expert knowledge in field of practice.
Make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. Knowledgeable of practices and procedures as well as the laws, regulations, and guidelines governing functions in the post-acute care facility.
Implement and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of the department. Perform proficiently in all competency areas including but not limited to: nursing care, supervisory responsibilities, infection control, patient rights, and safety and sanitation.
Maintains professional working relationships with all associates, vendors, etc. Maintains confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information.
Understand and follow company policies including harassment and compliance procedures.
Displays integrity and professionalism by adhering to Life Care's Code of Conduct and completes mandatory Code of Conduct and other appropriate compliance training.
Assist the DON in planning, developing, implementing, evaluating and directing the Nursing Services department Interview, select, hire, train, evaluate, and supervise nursing staff.
Assist with overseeing care provided by nursing staff. Oversee infection control responsibilities. Assume the duties of the DON in his or her absence.
Provide direct nursing care as necessary.
Perform functions of a staff nurse as required.
Exhibit excellent customer service and a positive attitude towards patients.
Assist in the evacuation of patients.
Demonstrate dependable, regular attendance.
Concentrate and use reasoning skills and good judgment Communicate and function productively on an interdisciplinary team.

Responsibilities
- Under the direction of the Director of Nursing (DON) or higher licensed medical professional, the Assistant Director of Nursing will be responsible for assisting DON in planning, developing, and directing the operation of the Nursing Department in compliance with all applicable nursing standards, local, state and federal regulations and laws. Assist in the overall responsibility for coordinating the health care services for facilities and carrying out the terms of the contract, Public Health, and ACA standards. In the absence of the Director of Nursing, oversee the nursing staff to ensure quality care.
- Assist in the recruitment, hiring, orientation, training, and supervision of all nursing personnel
- Perform employee coaching and evaluations and make recommendations for employee promotion/discipline
- Assist with nursing sick call and scheduling all shifts in the absence of DON
- Assist in carrying out physician/FNP/PA orders as needed
- Communicate to physician and FNP/PA any potentially significant medical complaint or observation discovered during routine duties
- Assist the on-site medical director and HSA/AHSA in the credentialing process for RN's working under standardized procedures
- Assist with clinical and administrative matters
- Assist the HSA and DON with establishing and maintaining Policy and Procedure and nursing standard procedure
- Management and control of Methadone as assigned
- Maintain employee personnel files and monitor compliance with licensure and certifications
- Recommend and participate in the development of organizational policies to include monitoring and enforcement of Infection Control policies and procedures; assist on organization committees such as QA and regular staff meetings
- Responsible for overseeing submission of monthly statistics as required
- Conduct Quality Management and monthly CQI studies audits as outlined in policies and yearly scheduled Adult Facilities Quality Assurance
- Monitor persons served with positive TB skin test results for appropriate care, treatment, follow up and referral to public health personnel upon release overseeing infection control nurse
- Oversee routine logs: medical equipment such as ER bag checklist, Narcotics & sharps logs, insulin vials logs, fridge temperature checks, spore counts logs, incident reports
- Relieve nurse supervisor position or staff nurse as needed
- Follow up persons served sent to ER, Out Patient Housing Unit patient acuity, and Intake, transfer, release flow
- Monitor nursing and medical assistant s workflow
- Maintain biohazard regulation with sharps container and environmental inspections monthly
- Assist with responding to grievances as needed
- Responsible for the performance evaluations and successful training of direct reports
- Performs other duties as assigned.
