North Liberty Community Pantry Food Security and Delivery AmeriCorps Member

The COVID-19 Recovery AmeriCorps Program (www.iowaeda.com/covid-americorps-members/) supports local organizations working to address the social, economic and physical needs of Iowans impacted by the pandemic. Since May 2020, the COVID-19 Recovery AmeriCorps Program has placed more than 160 members in full or part time service in 20+ Iowa communities at 40+ organizations.

AmeriCorps is a National Service program that places AmeriCorps members with organizations across US state and territories for a set number of weeks and hours.

This position with the North Liberty Community Pantry in North Liberty is a 36-week commitment. The AmeriCorps member will serve a part time schedule averaging 20 hours per week and will receive a living allowance totaling $7623. In addition, successful completion of the term of service earns an education award of $2474.27 to be used to pay qualified student loans or future education-related expenses. The member will have free and confidential access to a Member Assistance Program and will receive professional development opportunities throughout the service term.

AmeriCorps members will serve with North Liberty Community Pantry to address food security in Iowa City and Johnson County through the following service activities.

Establish systems for the Pantry’s grocery delivery program sustainability

• Consolidate delivery requests into delivery log
• Make phone calls to clients to take grocery orders
• Train and recruit grocery delivery volunteers
• Coordinate delivery of groceries by volunteers
• Deliver grocery orders not covered by volunteers
• Maintain accurate delivery data

Pantry operations

• Fill openings on shift in food pantry
• Sort food donations and replenish items on shelves as needed
• Receive and sort other in-kind donations
• Manage client intake and assist with grocery distribution
• Maintain confidentiality of records

Position Requirements:

• Ability to lift 40lbs
• Valid driver’s license, insurance, and personal vehicle to use for deliveries
• Pass driving history check

Qualifications:

• Must be 18 years of age or older by start date
• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent, or be in process of completion
• Must be either a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States
• Must pass mandatory pre-service background checks
