Job description

ROLE: This engineer will be responsible for the design and development of Genpak’s new products. Responsibilities will include development efforts for new products which meet internal and external customer needs, establishing specifications, and coordinating procurement of new tooling on time and within established budgets. Upon arrival of new tooling, the engineer will participate in the group’s successful transition of the project to the Production Group. This role will require the timely and effective interdepartmental communication of ongoing projects through regular meetings, timelines, and other updates as necessary.

KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Design and development of new products.
  • Participate in the procurement and start-up of new production tooling.
  • Assist in the establishment of project timelines and identify critical dates and deliverables.
  • Recommend production methods and procedures.
  • Creation of quality specifications for new products.
  • Demonstrates ability to work without supervision.
  • Other duties as necessary.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

Project Management:

  • Ability to develop project structure, scope, timelines, schedule, and budget utilizing Gantt chart software.
  • Ability to provide direction and support during project introduction with Manufacturing team.
  • Demonstrates understanding of Product Development process.
  • Ability to be an active participant of a multi-discipline project team.
  • Strong ability to establish and build relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Has ability to monitor progress of vendor performance, coordinate various contract specifications, review, and process payment requests.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of sources of supply and services.

Interpersonal/Communication:

  • Can demonstrate the ability to participate and/or foster interdepartmental communication and teamwork.
  • Can demonstrate ability to prioritize and multi-task duties without loss of efficiency or composure.
  • Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication and dissemination of information in a diplomatic manner.
  • Demonstrates ability to work under pressure, meet scheduled deadlines, meet emergency situations without loss of efficiency or composure.

Design/Product Design:

  • Demonstrates mechanical aptitude skills.
  • Exhibits strong 3D CAD and rendering aptitude.
  • Demonstrates understanding of Genpak’s manufacturing process.
  • Ability to convert concepts into design.
  • Ability to design with safety in mind.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Demonstrates troubleshooting/root cause analysis ability.
  • Ability to apply engineering principles to product design for relevant plastic parts and packaging.
  • Has a knowledge of plastic thermoforming material properties.
  • Ability to identify design improvements.
  • Demonstrates ability to identify and validate fitness for use requirements.

Quality:

  • Ability to read, understand and analyze statistical data and characteristics.
  • Ability to correctly utilize gauging equipment.

Safety:

  • Demonstrates ability to identify industry specific regulations and adhere to industry standards.
  • Demonstrates ability to comply with major Federal and State industrial safety regulations and industry and professional standards.
  • Demonstrate ability to understand and actively participate in all company safety programs, policies and procedures.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • BS Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of the Plastics Industry preferred.
  • Experience in Engineering project management.
  • Speaking and presentation skills to conduct effective meetings.
  • Team and group participation skills.
  • Knowledge of PC and Network based software including Word Processing, Spreadsheet and Database applications.
  • Advanced 3D CAD skills with graphic rendering experience preferred.
  • Basic understanding of plastic physical properties and behaviors.

Must be able to:

  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Visually read various postings, bulletin boards, and computer monitors/screens.
  • Heed safety warnings, devices and alarms.
  • Possess adequate ability to do problem solving and establish cause and effect relationships in an office and/or manufacturing environment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
