Position Details:

Summary of Duties:

The Program Coordinator/College Coach for Upward Bound College Readiness Program in Yakima area will assist the Upward Bound Program team with:
  • coordinating program services to participants
  • documenting student contacts
  • preparing program documents in English and Spanish
  • entering program data
  • interviewing prospective students
  • conducting workshops for high school students and parents
  • developing a service plan for high school participants
  • providing academic counseling
  • assisting in serving as liaison with local high schools, building positive working relationships with key community stakeholders.

Responsibilities include performing a variety of administrative support duties which include:
  • responding to inquiries regarding programs and services
  • maintain database and record-keeping systems
  • processing purchasing requests
  • monitor and maintain expenditures
  • providing assistance with property inventory
  • special event coordination
  • travel arrangements
  • college prep academic counseling to high school students

Additionally the position requires:
  • communication with English and/or Spanish-speaking high school students and parents in an appropriate manner
  • the application of an in-depth knowledge of college and financial aid application process, college preparation and high school graduation requirements.
  • the ability to exercise independent, sound judgment; to maintain confidentiality, organize complex and detailed information, and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.

Required Qualifications:

High school graduation or equivalent AND (2) two years of experience in the program specialty OR equivalent education/experience.
  • Familiarity with high school academic requirements as well as college admissions processes and requirements; familiarity with federal financial aid policies/procedures.
  • Experience coordinating events.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers and MS Office software including Word, Excel, and Publisher and experience in maintaining computerized record systems.
  • Must have or be able to obtain at the time of hire, a valid driver's license. Must pass the Motor Vehicle Background Check.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including frequent travel off-site and occasionally overnight.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree and professional working experience in a high school or higher education setting
  • Bi-lingual/Bi-literate in English and Spanish.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience working with high school students from diverse backgrounds.

Monthly Salary:

Range 38, $3,096.00 - $4,117.00 (A-M)

Successful candidates typically begin at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28 OR applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Position Type: This is a Temporary position.

Temporary End Date:

This is a temporary position expected to end on August 31, 2023. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.

This Upward Bound Program has been renewed annually since 2004 and is expected to renew.
