Project Manager

The Project Manager will ensure all grant activities maintain alignment with grant proposals including implementing budgets, setting stakeholder meetings, reporting on grant results, meeting milestones, setting grant activities, and supervision of staff. In addition to representing project stakeholders, the Project Manager will identify and communicate measurement criteria and timelines that align with grant objectives. This position will work with faculty, staff, and stakeholders in political science, public policy, and social science research to coordinate multiple grants and research projects to assist Principal Investigators. This position includes day-to-day operations, evaluative processes, coordination of information, presentations, communication with project stakeholders, and working in coordination with the Grants Manager on all fiscal matters.


Job Function/Responsibilities:

RESEARCH

  • Identifying and communicating measurement criteria and reporting on results
  • Collaborating with and supporting of grant teams to achieve coordinated and productive performance and the highest level of quality outcomes.
  • Setting grant activities and ensuring milestones are met.
  • Representing projects to stakeholders.
  • Defining timelines and make corrections as necessary to ensure grant aligns with objectives and goals.
  • Overseeing and pursuing institutional review board submissions, revisions, and reports.
  • Planning, conducting, and completing research projects using independent judgment.
  • Aiding in the development and submission of proposals.
  • Working with Research Associates and Principal Investigators to ensure costs are in alignment with grants.
  • Conducting basic research and searches for data, articles, and materials relevant to research projects.
  • Working with Baker Center Grants Manager and Office of Sponsored Programs to ensure proposal is submitted in Cayuse.
  • Assisting with determining opportunities for externally-funded research from foundations, government agencies, and/or corporate entities.
  • Allocating time between concurrent research projects and ensuring that deliverables are completed within specified time frames.
  • Providing expertise in the collection and preparation of data for analysis.
  • Contacting government agencies and/or other organizations to request data and other information.
  • Maintaining databases.
  • Using critical thinking and expertise to evaluate program and policies, conduct economic impact studies, develop forecasts, and conduct comprehensive econometric analyses for research projects.
  • Developing detailed reports for research findings that clearly and succinctly communicate findings with the use of tables, graphs, and maps.
  • Communicating research findings through presentations to funders and professional audiences.
  • Supervising student research assistants.

ADMINISTRATIVE

  • Interacting with and networking within the Baker Center and across campus to coordinate and manage deliverables for research projects.
  • Assisting with the development and submission of proposals.
  • Assisting principal investigators and researchers with other tasks related to research projects.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with a variety of constituencies including staff, students, faculty, consultants, and project stakeholders.
  • Ability and flexibility to work in a highly collaborative, fast-moving environment with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, team coordination, budgeting, and reporting skills.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and balance workload on concurrent projects with specified timelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply project management principles, methods, and practices.
  • Skilled in researching and analyzing complex problems and developing innovative solutions.
  • Ability to develop and present clear, concise management reports.

Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Working knowledge of political science and social science disciplines.
  • Working knowledge of academic organizational structures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Required level/type of experience and/or years of experience:

  • Master's degree in political science, public policy, economics, or related social sciences field.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in office/business management and/or academic environment.

Preferred level/type of experience and/or years of experience:

  • Master's degree with previous experience with federal- and state-funded grants and research projects.
  • 5 years experience in office/business management and/or academic environment.
