• High School diploma or GED required; Associates degree preferred

• CPC or CCS required

• 2 or more years of experience in the area of billing and/or coding operations in Healthcare.

• Experience using Microsoft programs including word and excel.

• Knowledge of CPT coding, third-party rules and regulations, and medical terminology.

• Experience working in electronic medical record systems required; EPIC preferred.

Under general supervision and according to established procedures, this position will be responsible for reviewing and billing technical and professional charges related to clinical research. This position will ensure all federal regulations and enterprise policies and procedures are adhered to with respect to billing and coding to ensure clinical research billing compliance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Apply knowledge of AMA coding guidelines to ensure accurate claim processing
• Abstract relevant clinical research information from the medical records and assign research ICD-10-CM/CPT codes in accordance with coding and reimbursement guidelines
• Ensure accurate and timely research billing review within the electronic health record (EHR) for hospital and professional charges
• Extrapolate information from multiple documents to determine correct billing in adherence with clinical research billing compliance rules and regulations
• Consult with clinical research personnel for clarification of clinical data when encountering ambiguous information or missing documentation
• Abstract research related clinical data and enter into Excel. Detail should be consistent with the statistical needs of the department
• Liasion between the research department, hospital and physician services for research billing and/or coding issues
• Provide organizational oversight and support of the research charge reconciliation process as well as other research-related revenue integrity functions and processes
• Work independently to maintain and prioritize work load.
• Escalate any issues to supervisor in a timely manner
• Interact with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson
