Greater Amsterdam School District (GASD) currently seeks multiple, 10-month, Teaching Assistants for various sites within the district (K-12). Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Provide, under the general supervision of a licensed or certified teacher, direct instructional service to students.

• Assist teachers with lesson preparation (i.e gathering materials, equipment, data sheets, etc).

• Review lesson material with students individually or in small groups.

• Oversee students during non-classroom times including in-between classes, during lunch. (before or after school duties)

• Participate and collaborate with teachers to recognize issues students are facing and recommend solutions.

• Document student progress and communicate with the teacher any trends in strategies.

• Participate with lead teachers to create lesson plans.

• Attend all training classes, parent conferences, and faculty meetings.

• Assists teachers with executing instruction, evaluating its effectiveness and maintaining a data system.

• If necessary, perform related supplemental instruction pursuant to a student’s IEP.

• Monitors student behavior and helps maintain discipline in the classroom; records time out and in class suspension; assists with crisis prevention; restrains students as needed.

• Assists students with learning; reinforces and clarifies instructions; conducts short sessions on improving study skills; creates and modifies materials to match student abilities; provides one-on-one assistance as needed.

• Maintains standardized records and documentation concerning the progress of students.

• Progress monitoring and data keeping as needed.

• Performs other related work as required by building principal and classroom teacher

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Either:

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree and/or currently NYS Level I, II or III certified Teaching Assistant.
• Having fluency in English and Spanish is highly preferred, but not a requirement. About the Greater Amsterdam School District:
