Position Summary

The Career Coach is responsible for identifying the needs for successful re-entry, linking to services that contribute to successful re-entry, instructing groups in reentry skills, and coordinating the delivery of services. Listed below are the primary responsibilities of this position; however, the Director of Reentry Services and his/her designee may assign other professional duties to meet the College’s needs.

**This position will require traveling to different ISTC sites**

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Schedules presentations for potential students within and outside the prison setting, including shop tours, Q&A sessions, course, and program content information, instructor expectations, credentialing options, etc.
• Performs interest/aptitude surveying.
• Creates individualized “career plans.”
• Facilitates enrollment in career technical training.
• Provides one-on-one mentoring and guidance.
• Instruct students and prospective students in reentry skills.
• Participates in multi-disciplinary teams working with students to develop and implement a viable re-entry plan.
• Completes required paperwork in an accurate and timely manner.
• Participates in in-service training and other continuing education activities to enhance job skills and knowledge.
• Understands and maintains a valid Alabama Driver’s license and the ability to meet the requirements of insurability established by ISTC’s insurance carrier.
• Understands and maintains confidentiality within the bounds of legal and ethical standards as well as a high standard of professional integrity.
• Demonstrates computer literacy by utilizing current technology to communicate and complete reports.
• Must be eligible to enter any/all Department of Corrections (DOC) facilities to perform the job duties and maintain this status for continued employment.
• Possesses an understanding of and commitment to the philosophy and mission of a community and technical college.
• Possesses a sensitivity and commitment to cultural diversity.
• Complies with any applicable guidelines and policies set forth by the Alabama Community College System and J. F. Ingram State Technical College.

Qualifications

An Associate’s degree in a human services field from a regionally accredited institution is required. A bachelor’s degree in human services from a regionally accredited institution; documented experience working with correctional populations, and knowledge of Department of Corrections Administrative Regulations; demonstrated experience working with educationally or vocationally challenged individuals is preferred.

Our mission is to provide quality educational services to individuals incarcerated in central Alabama’s correctional facilities. The student population served is diverse in age, race, educational, economic, and cultural background.

Salary Range: Salary will be determined by placement on the appropriate Alabama Community College System-approved salary schedule. E3 03 ($43,464 - $59,225)
