Maureen Joy Charter School is seeking an Elementary School Instructional Coach for the 2022-2023 school year.

What You Bring:
  • 5+ years of elementary teaching experience that demonstrate achieving excellent results
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to support and develop teachers
  • Experience in managing individual adults and/or teams
  • Experience in internalization and data analysis protocols and processes
  • Experience designing and executing professional development sessions

  • Preferred:
  • Experience teaching Heggerty, Into Reading, and/or other literacy curriculum aligned to science of reading methodology
  • Experience administering and analyzing diagnostic assessments (CORE Phonics, Counting Proficiency, iReady or comparative assessments)
  • Experience teaching cognitively guided math instruction (Story Problem, Counting Collections, etc) and Achievement First and/or Investigations mathematics curriculum
  • Experience with instructional coaching aligned with the Get Better Faster Model
  • Experience designing professional development aligned to the See It, Name It, Do It model

What You’ll Do:

Instructional Coaching
Provide weekly instructional coaching for a portfolio of 6-8 teachers:
  • Support teachers with lesson planning and internalization as needed with our curricula materials:
  • Literacy: Heggerty (Phonological Awareness), Into Reading (Reading and Writing)
  • Observing teachers for approximately 30-60 minutes (3-4 times)/cycle and providing observational feedback resulting in a bite-sized action step.
  • Support teachers in real-time with model teaching, co-teaching, and real-time feedback as needed.
  • Engage in coaching conversations with teachers every cycle to discuss data, classroom management, instructional planning, internalization, and/or execution.
  • Collaborate with Assistant Principal to determine teachers who need to transition to an intensified support plan.

Grade Level Partnership
  • Partner with grade-level leads and Assistant Principal to develop Student Orientation plans
  • Join weekly grade-level team meetings to stay abreast of grade-level initiatives and plans
  • Attend and collaborate on grade-level and school-wide events
  • Provide presence, modeling and support during assigned critical culture-heavy times of the day
  • Participate in implementation of social-emotional, Academic Development (SEAD) curriculum and practices

Professional Development
  • Plan and execute monthly professional development and/or data analysis sessions.
  • Plan and develop staff orientation sessions.
  • Plan and develop ongoing Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) with grade-level teams to support instructional foci.

Curriculum, Assessments, and Grading
  • Participate in making curriculum adoption/modification/implementation and development decisions.
  • Modify planning documents including days for assessment, flex, and reteach.
  • Create assessment calendars that include:
  • Assessment / graded assignments administered
  • Timeline for grading and providing feedback
  • Timeline for data analysis, reteach, and posting or returning assignments
  • Analyze Interim Assessment data and trends with Assistant Principal to inform Data Day and instructional team data analysis.
  • Create and/or modify interim assessments and create keys on GradeCam.
  • Create teacher-facing exemplars for Interim Assessments.
  • Provide feedback on Interim Assessment/Benchmark Analysis and reteach plans.
  • Ensure planners create assessment scorecards and provide feedback on assessments within the assessment cycle and framework.

Elementary/Middle School Instructional Leadership Team
  • Serve on the school’s Instructional Leadership Team:
  • Participate in bi-weekly walkthroughs with Assistant Principal to collect data on instructional trends using observation tools and the Get Better Faster (GBF) coaching rubric.
  • Participate in Instructional Leadership Team walkthroughs to collaborate on observations, action steps, and teacher support.
  • Meet weekly to discuss and analyze school-wide instructional trends using data from walkthroughs, Whetstone, Interim Assessments, etc.
  • Work as a member of a larger team in making school-wide instructional decisions that ensure that all Maureen Joy scholars receive the best instruction possible
